Hi guys
I got Jim Paces book called “The restaurant Magicians Handbook “ and through he talked about the subject in detail I he didn’t cover how long a magician should be doing magic at table for. He did give a few simple 3 to 4 effect mini routines that he would do from table to table but given the personation of the effect I did’nt really think they gave a fear indication. I was at magician convention just a few days ago and during our formal dinner magician were do the table hopping thing but magicians seemed to only do one effect and move on well other did a few more. So my question is, what length of time should a magician perform for at a table. Magically Aus |

I've never done the table hopping thing, so consider the source when you read my thoughts. I think one to three effects would be about right. This is always subject to adjustment, because you shouldn't stay if they do not appear to be enjoying your show. Also, if the food arrives, you should wish them a good evening and exit stage left.
Just my uninformed $0.02
I need a stage name.

I would say that the number of effect isn't as important as the time you spend, check the link that Larry sent and that should help alot!

It al depends on how long it takes you to aquire the reaction you need. but one needs to know when to stop. 3-5 tricks as usually all is needed. a good opener, and closer, and a set of middle routines that keeps the audience interested. during the middle routines if the audience isn't as impressed, try a few more effects, but don't waste your closer until the time is right. but like I siad, you need to know when to stop, people like to be entertained, but not forced to watch something as painful as a bad act.

One trick and that is it. are you getting paid? that is not enough. I do 3 to 5 min unless it is needed to do more, but never over that.
