I've just seen another person posting in the sales area that he can't figure out how to post a picture of the item he is trying to sell.
I know the Café doesn't host pictures and they need to find a site that does and then link to it. Isn't there a way to have a message that explains this somewhere in the process? |

I'm not sure where we would put such a message since most members don't read the FAQ or pay attention to instructions. It isn't necessary to host a picture on site and link to it although that works. They can save the picture on their own hard drive and use the attachment feature at the bottom of the post to attach the photo.

I guess the problem boils down to most people don't know how to find the size of a picture or how to resize it. I think there are many sites where you can post a picture and the resizing is done for you.
The comment I see so often is "I can't figure out how to post a picture here so PM me and I will email the picture to you." This says to me that that person has tried numerous times without receiving an error message. Only a post with no picture. It would be helpful to have an error message that says: "Your picture is too big. Resize it to the limits shown". Adding an error message may not be something you can do unless you are involved in coding the message board. How about a sticky at the top of the sales forum entitled "How to post pictures of your item". I would be happy to write it although I am not sure I am the most qualified. I simply use the free program Irfanview. |

If you try to post a picture that is too large, you get a message saying it's too large. When you make a post, at the bottom of the page under the "attachment" function, the size limit is shown.

The problem is that there is no error message. The picture just doesn't show up in the post.
It reminds me of the Norman Door: The Norman door is a door that's confusing. It was named after (and not by) design guru Don Norman to define this all-too-common design foible. ... If you try to push/pull and the door actually slides, the door fails. I worked in a restaurant where the front door swung both ways. Both sides had handles that looked like you should push on them. At some point, the door broke and was repaired in such a way that it only opened outwards. Every day you could see people try to enter by pushing that door and they ended up banging their faces against the glass. The door actually had a sign on it that said PULL but the design of the handle encouraged people to push. They didn't notice the sign because you usually don't need to read instructions on a restaurant door. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. |

Mike, at the bottom of the original post, there's a function called "attachment" If that is used, then you choose the picture you want to use from your computer. If the photo is too large, you do get an error message if the picture is too large.

I've tried to post a photo several times today.
Its the right size and not too large and I've tried two formats that should work. I gave up. |

Mary, can you email the photo to me. I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong. Tell me where you wanted to post the picture as well.
