Jamie Daws to the rescue as per usual. If it hasn’t been officially released yet then why is the product for sale on Alakazam’s website with four glowing reviews? You couldn’t make it up.

Pegasus Its still not officially advertised yet on the site,it was hidden on the site until those of us that watched the Alakazam live Peter Nardi told them to search for Zoltans opener because it had not been launched officially and stock supply would not be enough if it was advertised fully on the site.

Peter said it would be a few months before officially released. Also you still cant see it on the site only when those that know about it and search for it,The reviews are from those that watched the live and purchased I presume.

Graham.

Thanks. Makes sense now.

It’s a brilliant idea by Peter to take a simple method and make beautiful cards around a fantastic film that everyone resonates with.
For that premise alone it’s genius thinking which will engage and kill a lay audience imo.
After giving this a lot of thought the final display is when you are already on the home run after already taken them down the garden path and done their head in.
Really love it Gaz 😊

I crack up at Peter Nardi's presentations. It's like he knows he is supposed to engage the audience, but he couldn't care less if they interract. Here was a snipet of the scripting:

Peter: "Are you into your movies?"
Wayne: "I love movies, it's my big thing"
Peter: "Well for me, I'm a big movie buff"

Peter is going to plow through his script regardless. I think someone could have a heart attack right in the middle of his presentation and he would just keep going with his script.

Way to go, Peter! You go, boy!

On a serious note, I rather like his presentation, and the trick is good. I'm thinking this presentation and the box alone would also be good for the invisible deck. You could switch back and forth, just keep the packaging and replace the guts inside the box.

Nice release Peter, sorry for busting your ... parts.

Aren’t there going to be lots of people within a certain age-group responding with “never heard of it”

I love everything Peter Nardi puts out but Personally I don’t see the point of this trick.

It’s the artwork and the story line that makes for a great presentation with this imo.
The method is basic but I think if you did it with a standard deck then it would be lame but that’s the whole point of using these cards and box.
That’s where the value is, the method is irrelevant except for it being so easy which is another plus.
I am from an era that has fond memories of Zoltar and also the link to the film so that’s why I really like the whole premise Gaz 😊

Received my Zoltar deck yesterday and set them up today.
First impression…I don’t just like it, I LOVE it!!!

Basic method for sure, but the custom printed box combined with the custom printed cards, along with Pater’s very interesting and entertaining script make this another winner from Peter and Alakazam.
Great that you can make this a 30 second routine or a 3 minute routine, or even longer if you wish.

Nice also that they truly can pick ANY card. None of this “now remove either the black cards or the red cards” stuff which works well but how many of those can you have in your repertoire?

AFA as adding something like SF to show the cards in a spread…I’m actually a big fan of that and tend to do that whenever possible. But not sure you can with this set up. Perhaps so but would have to give it more thought. But truth be told, I wouldn’t bother in this case anyway. It really isn’t necessary IMO.

Gaz mentioned preferring the long edges being treated rather than the short edges, but you don’t have to do the typical Sv****li display. You can hold the cards horizontal rather than vertical and do either a spring or something more akin to a waterfall display.

My only quibble is personally I would have preferred they created another back design rather than using standard red backed bikes. Maybe a mostly red back with Tom Hanks picture or some other tie in to the movie. I think it would have given the whole deck a more realistic look as being a novelty deck and also made each reveal equally fun. They pretty much are and it’s not a big deal but that would have been my preference. But I’m sure many of you would disagree anyway. Of course I realize it would have raised the price and probably kept them from selling the gazillon they will probably sell eventually.
Maybe a “Pro” version 2.0 perhaps, in the larger sized cards too?

Final note about the back design…I’m tempted to try and make up my own if I can find an unusual back design that may go with the Zoltar or carnival theme. But I stress that of course this is absolutely unnecessary but simply something that the magic nerd inside me enjoys trying to do.

Great review Bill as always.
I personally find dribbling this kind of deck or springing from the ends harder than a regular deck if I’m honest.
Having said that I like the story and plot so much it’s pretty much irrelevant and I am happy enough with the standard S display.
Also if you really wanted I presume you could write Tom Hank’s on all the Red cards anyway if you wished.
That’s the theme I would be using but others may want another story and another name (I have no idea why they would) so perhaps keeping them just Red appeases everyone overall. Best wishes Gaz 😊

Yes Gaz, you are probably right regarding the back design, everyone probably has their own take on it. And it is almost certainly cheaper to manufacture them way they did and I certainly don’t begrudge that at all for doing that in this case. It is likely the best way to do it.

But being the obsessive magic oddball that I am I have already made up the required cards using cards from a red Ask Alexander deck. The faces, while not identical, are close enough, and the backs can easily fit into a “Zoltar” mind reading theme. I’m working up some ideas on how to use these cards to embellish the final reveal just a bit. I mean just in my own opinion, I don’t expect anyone to necessarily agree. We all have to find our own paths, right?

But that’s what I like about this deck, it gives you the ability to present a strong effect using an entertaining and engaging storyline that you can take in many different directions. Mine obviously won’t be exactly the same as Peter’s but will probably be very similar overall. Although I’m now contemplating making the movie Big a smaller part of the story with more emphasis on these strange mind-reading machines we’ve all encountered at some point or another, and many people find them to be kind of spooky if not creepy.

Sounds great Bill, I love your thinking and the way you put your own spin on things.
That’s the best magic when you tweak it and make it your own Gaz 😊
