Does anybody know the first reference to a silk production? And the first reference to a flag production?
I'm stumped for where to look for the earliest references. Travis |

Just a flag or a flag on a flagstaff. German magic companies were among the first circa 1850.

There is a reference in Modern Magic of "The Flags of all Nations" (1876). The effect involves miniature silk flags that multiply and grow. Der Zauberspiegel (Vol. 3 No. 9) - Mar. 1898, also mentions the production of a flag from a cylinder.
That's two of the earlist effects that I know of regarding silk flag productions, but I am by no means a historical magic scholar. |

The flagstaff production became a popular dealer item in the mid 1890s. Example ad:

Good question, just the flag, not the flagstaff!
And also any pointers on the origins of the silk production generally would be appreciated! I presume that silk productions came before flag productions, but it could have been the other way around... Travis |
