Without viewing specific video, not sure which cards he uses. There are numerous ESP cards available.

What routine was it? I can’t think of any from Max that require a specific deck of Zener cards. They may need to have certain properties in their design, but I doubt you’d need that exact set.

It was one he left prediction inside the pack and the spectator tell him when to stop stop

The red version is still in stock. https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S23921
However, if it’s the effect I’m thinking of, you can do it with any cards with the right timing. Admittedly I haven’t read the full effect from ESP Origins (looks like Maven’s is called “Synchosis”), so maybe someone who owns it can confirm. |

Didn't the actual ESP cards Rhine used have stars all over the back?

LightSport:
Are you talking about "SHAPE UP" - on Vol. #2 of Max's "Video Mind" DVD Set? A prediction card is placed unseen inside the box; and then the spectator starts dealing cards off the deck until he/she stops on one card. .....one side of the box has drawings of the 5 ESP cards, and the opposite side of the box has a circle (with the letters "ESP" within)...these "tell" the Mentalist the proper way to remove the prediction inside the box. btw--the ORIGINAL Rhine Cards had "curly" designs on the "backs", with a circle in the center - and within that circle was depicted both the "Duke University Chapel" and the letters "ESP"....the "Stars" design came much later, and perhaps were created by Haines House of Cards. |

MentalMik, that Amazon link you provided blew me away. I've owned a set of the original blue-backed Rhine cards for years, but my cards have an overall pattern of multiple small stars. The box looks the same (and looks raggedy enough to be ca. 75 years old), but the cards look quite new. (?) Were there really two completely different versions of the Zener cards made back in 1937? Can you or anyone else shed further light on this for me? Please!

Maybe the star backed cards were made after when they started to sell them.

MentalMik, thanks. I guess I found my answer on eBay just now--see current item titled "vintage esp cards set zener duke 2 Decks." Now I must decide if I want those really original originals badly enough to fork over $50 + shipping for them. And they aren't even m****d! (grrrrr) Maybe I'll make a lowball offer and see what happens. Wish me luck.

With unm**** cards you can do great stuff with a cyclic stack. Those cards on eBay are sold, did you get them?
