Hi all,
I am looking to the hive mind for elements of a show that are stage-filling and all-encompassing in the literal sense. For example, balloon drops over the audience, snow storm, confetti canons, and the tricks that could go with them. I’m a family magician touring small theatres and really want to wrap up the viewers in an all encompassing immersive experience. All suggestions welcome! |

Joey,
What you want to do is very costly, and you have to hire person to put a show together for you, if you do not want to do it yourself. Ray Pierce, is a show creator, and he is a member of the Café, You can contact him here on the Café through the PM system, or contact him in California. Again this is professional business, so it very costly. He post in this topic all the time. Kevin James makes and sells the snow storm machines, and there is different types of snow storms. Contact him. Confetti Canons are available at many places, just do a search on the internet. Again search with Google. How big of a back stage crew do you have, what you want to do is requires many people to clean up the mess. I would guess a party company could fix you up with the balloon drop. Again, you have to clean up the theater. |

A real stage filler for a finally is Abbotts "Spectacular Finale" It packs really small, but gives you an amazing flash ending to your show.

Thank you Bill! Filling the stage with “stuff” isn’t that hard. The Abbott’s Finale is an example of that. On the other hand, immersing the audience is a different thing. Yes, confetti/streamer cannons, snow storms an other devices can “envelope” the audience and pull them inside your magic. I remember a wonderful clown based show called Aga Boom where they had HUGE inflatable balls that they sent out into the audience to elaborate on the sense of fun and play they had built. Look at them work of the Blue Man Group for similar immersive devices where they have elements that the force the audience to participate together as a team to bring to life. These are wonderful ideas but frequently carry hidden costs. We usually have an extra clean up fee for venues where we use confetti and it can add quite a bit to the cost. As an example, that’s why I typically use streamers as they don’t have the same issue. Ultimately it’s all about engagement and how you can capture them mentally, emotionally AND physically!

I have always liked Enchanted Garden flower routines. Fill the stage and if you like, produce a basket of flowers to toss out some, either real or artificial, to the audience. Or invite the host on stage and give them a bouquet.
Some examples of various sizes including from several of our compatriots here on the Café: The first one by Harry Blackstone Jr starts at 25 minutes. |
