I'm going back and studying again some of the books and videos that I purchased years ago, those that I recall as being superb. EZ Q&A by Lee Earle, is one of those resources. Lee put out three videos as part of his "Q&A Teach-In", and one of those videos is called "EZ Q&A". If you love the Q&A, this is one you want to study.
Lee credits Bruce Bernstein for the core idea, which was originally published as "Emergency Mentalism" I believe in Bernstein's book Psy-Kicks, then later in his book Unreal. Lee also mentions Emergency Mentalism was published in Syzygy. Lee took Emergency Mentalism, which used business cards, and changed it in a number of ways, one of which includes using pre-printed cards (printed on a home printer, then cut with a ruler and exacto knife) to create EZ Q&A. I don't have the Sunshine Boys lecture DVD, but Lee mentions in the EZ Q&A video that EZ Q&A also appeared in that release. More recently, Lee also taught EZ Q&A in his Penguin Live Act lecture, which I found to be excellent. Bruce Bernstein's idea was to be able to perform a powerful mentalism effective with very few props (business cards) and very minimal preparation in an emergency situation, such as luggage being lost, etc. His original Emergency Mentalism is more impromptu in that sense. EZ Q&A on the other hand requires pre-printed cards, and is not really impromptu. Both are excellent. In the EZ Q&A video Lee teaches so many really clever and useful subtleties. A really great release that you can still find at some dealers. |

It was sad to read, however, in Bernstein's book how he expressly did NOT give Earl permission to share this work as he did.
That said-- I agree I love going back and re-reading stuff-- especially when I'm particularly tempted by something new. d

I wonder who else was in the room when Earl asked Bernstein if they could have permission to use that methodology in their videos?
Perhaps we will never know the full story... Most flat out thieves don't go out of their way to point out the source of their ill-gotten gains, which leads me to believe there was probably more to the story than Earl ripping (& crediting) the method on 3 separate occasions and Bernstein writing in his book that he never gave permission ...

When I hear something like this I just go purchase the original, in this case the Bernstein book. I have often wondered about this giving credit being the answer to just using without permission. Easier to just ask and its a yes or no.
That aside, there are now tons of resource for q&a, one of the strongest things you can do. Bob Cassidy released some great material on the subject as many of you will know. |
