Hi

Does anyone know of a source for a list of names associated with a playing cards? What I mean is a list of 52 different people's names associated with each playing card. I could make one up for what I need but I thought maybe someone already has a list or there is one in the public domain already that I could use or adapt.

Thanks

I'm not aware of any public lists... If you're doing the mind palace thing, something personal to you will be much more effective.

If you're looking for a stack learning tool, since you're going to need to get both the number and sequence at instant recall, most people would suggest you just learn them at the same time and simply number your cards and treat them like flash cards.

If you're doing something completely different than either of those, I guess I'd share my list with you from when I was building a mind palace. Some of my cards won't make much sense though. You might wonder why the King ♦ is Jack. My buddy Jack throws tomahawks... but to anyone else it's probably sort of dumb to name a king "Jack" 😂

A few of mine. I use Mnemonica. Some of my names are based on the card, some are based on the position in the stack. Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds says Emerson. Disagree---but....

4C is Jeeves (the butler). [For me came from Hertz is #1 in rent-a-car.]. 2H is James Bond--hard to explain but think Hertz as a boring black limo and Avis #2 as a sports car, 7D is Donald Duck (duck is the traditional Lorayne Vernon mnemonic for 7D), 3C is Arnold Palmer (3 types of clubs in a golf bag), ... 9S is Superman (soup is the traditional Lorayne Vernon mnemonic for 9S---I use a pun). The QH is my mom, since her birthday happened to be the 11th. The 9D is Voldemort, because of it being the so-called curse of Scotland. 3S is Steph Curry---21 was a childhood basketball shooting game. I use my sister's birthday, my birthday, 1929 being the start of the depression (so FDR), KC is Nat King Cole, KD is King Arthur, KH is Dai Vernon, KS is 31 is Halloween is Frankenstein. I use Michael Jordan, Bo Derek, Johnny Unitas, Reggie Jackson, Wolfman Jack, Dr. Doom, The Hulk, Einstein, all four Beatles for the Aces, QC is my wife, QD is a cute friend of my wife, QS is Cruella De Ville.

Sometime the stack number and the card will reinforce each other. My wife SHOULD be one of the Queens and her birthday is the 13th.

Not consistent in origin, the hodgepodge helped me remember, but all 52 have meaning to me, likely dumb to others at MattyM says. It's worth taking a few days (off and on) and a notebook. They will come to you. Had a lot of fun doing this. Couldn't forget the connections if I tried.

Emerson actually said that "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds". Not any consistency.

Doug: the exact quote is much better. Thanks!

(Your Vanishing book is great; have several earlier ones as well.)
