I just got a letter included with an order but I'm sure a mass email will go out notifying all of their account holders. But, in case you want to get a jump on it: They are getting a new website in January and Downloads, Academies or loyalty points will not transfer over. Start downloading your magic! The old site will still be available for 3 months after the new site goes live - so, plenty of time.

Wait, what?! Why is it incumbent on the customer to do all the work. Some customers will have many (possibly hundreds) of videos and it will take a long time to download every single one. That's besides the point of having to pay for additional storage elsewhere.
If this is true then it's bad news 😒. Hopefully this wil be sorted so customers won't be inconvenienced. |

So that's why I saw Peter out in the moors shooting laptops with a crossbow?

Some of them don't even want to give you the option to download and own it, then you're really screwed! |

I’ll be very disappointed if this turns out to be true. What a pain in the neck downloading years worth of stuff.

Hi All,
We have been trying to let everyone know on our lives, in postal letters and will soon be sending out emails. Alakazam are having a new site built which is due to launch in Feb 2022 (if everything goes to plan) Unfortunately because our last site was custom coded from the ground up it means that it is now seriously running behind tech wise. The new site is being built on a platform that will move with the times hopefully making it future proof. That being said it appears to be impossible to transfer client account data from the old platform to the new platform. As we state in the letter the old site will be put on a subdomain for a few months to give you plenty of time to download anything you need to. Please bare in mind we have always recommended downloading and storing your files as they are held in your account as a courtesy service but it is your responsibility to download, store and keep them safe. Any registration codes for products will work on the new site but downloads, Academies, order history and points are not able to transfer over. We do have a new points system on the new site with some great feature and bonuses but in the meantime if you have a ton of points now is the time to use them. Obviously we will do our best to help anyone in the transition period and we will continue paying for hosting on the old site for a period of time once the new site goes live and we are giving you ample warning to start downloading your content (I know most people do anyway) Downloading is super simple. Each video will have a set of buttons below giving you the option of downloading in your desired quality. Just hit the quality you require and the downloading will start. We obviously apologise for any inconvenience this may course and are happy to help with any issue you may encounter. Peter Nardi |

My partner works in I.T. and he says there is always a way to transfer account data to a new site, however there needs to be a cost–benefit analysis i.e how much it would cost Alakazam to do this vs. how much it's going to annoy customers (downloading videos, losing points etc ..) and the impact on future business.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out in terms of shifting the onus onto customers. |

I find this odd. I'm a full stack web developer -- database/server back-end and client front-end -- and I've never, ever in all my years heard that it was *impossible* to transfer data. There's always a way. Always, always.
It might take time -- and, as Doric mentions above -- it might cost more than anticipated -- but there's always a way to transfer data. You might get a crabby developer wondering who in the world did this in the first place? But that's pretty normal. IT people are generally pretty crabby. Even if the data is stored in plain old text files -- without any kind of metadata (table/column names, etc) or discernable structure (comma-delimited, etc.) -- there's a way to scrape the data. Even it's just brute-force "get all the text and start scrubbing". Golang/javascript/Python -- choose your language and there's a (open-source!) scraper that works off-the-shelf or is modifiable for your specific structure. GitHub has hundreds of open-source data/web scraping solutions. Tons. If an IT person told me it was impossible to transfer data -- even from a custom website like Peter mentions -- I'd fire that IT person and get a new one. There's always, always, always a way to transfer data. (Once transferred it might be scrubbing and cleaning and checking -- but that's a pretty normal thing anyway.) If you can access the data, you can transfer. Now -- it might indeed be impossible if you can't *access* the data. That'd be an issue -- but I don't see how that's an issue here. My two cents. |

DM me with the issues, and I happy to advise. I'm an Alakazam fan -- still use the F1 Wallet -- so if there's any way I can help, please let me know.

I will never order from Alakazam if this goes ahead, obviously From what the tech guys say above it can be done, probably Peter not wanting to pay for the support to enable this.
So I’m not technical at all, How would someone with only an iPhone to view the site videos go about downloading them? Any help appreciated. |

If you haven't got the ability to download there maybe another option. Will need to see how many downloads etc you have purchased and which ones. If you would like me to look in to it please give me your login email.
Happy to help you Cardbiker Regards Peter |

Oh, we seem to forget that we are in a cloud based age. Who has a hard drive anymore? So in consequence we now have to pay a cloud provider to store these files going forward? Another advantage of having them on the Alakazam site, is that I can access them from anywhere.
Hi Peter, here is a suggestion: If I as a customer can document all my purchases/files via screen shots and more from your current site. Would it then be possible for Alakazam to give me access to the files again from your new site???? All the best Jan |
