Alakazam should hire Gaz as their new head of I.T. He finds solutions 😀.

You can just press screen recording on your iPhone on your first viewing and it then saves it to your photos and videos so don’t you need passcodes or anything once you have played it once Gaz 😊

Hi Gaz, I didn’t know this, what button on the iPhone do you have to press to initiate recording? Thanks

You go to settings, then control centre and make sure the screen recording option is turned on.
You then swipe your Home Screen like you would to get your torch or don’t disturb icons etc to show up.
It’s then the solid circle icon button within the outer circle icon normally next to the alarm clock but you will find its easily.
Just make sure you have want you want to record ready to start as it gives you a 3 second countdown once pressed and then it records whatever is on or playing on your screen.
I hope that helps Gaz.😊

Thanks, I had NO idea this existed

I only found about it myself very recently to be honest.
Before that I was recording my iPad screen from my iPhone etc.
I got tired of running out of room on Google drive etc so after years of that method thought there might be an easier way.
You may want notifications and calls on don’t disturb otherwise it spoils the video.
Admittedly no one can get hold of you for about 3 hours at times lol, which isn’t always a bad thing
Gaz.😊

That last part actually sold me even more on this Smile

There's a larger issue here with regard to downloads, and it has nothing to do with Alakazam. In the beginning, there were books. Then VHS tapes, then DVDs. In each case, you had a hard copy and it was your responsibility to keep track of it. What happened to your old VHS tapes? Do you still have a VHS player? Did you get them converted to some other format? I suspect most people just "lost" that content and re-bought the ones they really cared about.

Now there are downloads. More and more, DVDs aren't available and things are only available to download. And the larger question is: who is responsible for those downloads? Are magic companies responsible for holding them for you forever, or are you responsible for downloading them and keeping track of them? Really you should keep track of your own downloads, because magic companies can and do go out of business. But being responsible for your own downloads isn't that easy. Over the years the content gets big. Where do you store it? On your computer's hard drive? You need to back it up, since your computer will eventually die. What about people who only use their phones? There is only so much storage space. Maybe you should think about this before buying lots of downloads.

And don't get me started about the sites that are streaming-only and don't let you download. There you're only renting the videos until they are no longer available for whatever reason.

So for Alakazam, it's really all about data migration, which is a fundamental part of any platform switch. They are still going to have all of the downloadable content to sell in the future. It costs them nothing but bandwidth to make it available to the people who already bought it. They just need to migrate user's data. Let's hope they end up doing this, but you still need to ask yourself what happens to your downloads should Alakazam eventually go out of business.

Yeah, must agree in part to this. Alakazam must retain these same downloads for new purchases, anyway, and certainly there is not new a copy created of the tutorial for each person purchasing an item for the first time. So it's not like a space issue. I've done many migrations in my job. Sounds more to me like they or the folks doing their migration just don't want to deal with migrating all user data. Lazy or don't know how. And the paper letter sent out regarding this, and the "go get your files now or else" tone to the letter, just reflects badly on them, I'm afraid. I just have a feeling that other magic dealers, who I will not name, would not handle it in this manner, and would be able to keep customer links to their purchased item tutorials. IMO, not good customer service. Please keep in mind this is just my opinion. Disagree if you must and I'm sure many will.

No disagreement here. This has definitely soured my opinion of Alakazam, and like most, I am a long time customer. But in light of this, I probably will order from the most convenient dealer in the future. Historically, I’d order from them even if it meant higher costs. But they reminded me, business is business, and the money comes first of course. If they can’t even make note of what was purchased, so that we can continue to use our purchases as expected, I’ll be done and take my money elsewhere. Just my thoughts and I wish everyone a happy new year!🥳

A few years before covid and lockdown I went iPad only as my PC was long in the tooth. I purchased an MS Office 365 subscription, which gives you 6Tb OneDrive storage space (1Tb for each of six users). I have all my trick downloads stored on one, and all of my alakazam academies, penguin lectures and DVD rips stored on another. I’ve also scanned and converted most of my written instructions into PDFs, so I have instant access wherever I am either on my iPad or on my Kindle tablet. I have since built a new PC and have everything stored on there as well, but it’s peace of mind (and access to MS Word the few times a month I need to use it) having everything stored on OneDrive. I also maintain a OneNote file with a list of passwords and links for download instructions should I ever need to access them again.

That all said - the vast majority of Alakazam releases have come with registration codes for the last few years, and I would
Imagine that there will be the option to put these back in when the site migrates over to the new one, so as long as people still have these then there shouldn’t be too many issues.

Nothing. I just found out by accident by coming here.I am utterly horrified.
It will take me days to download all my stuff.

Same here NO info about this in my email folder !

Data transfer is possible and has to be done !

I emailed Alakazam to ask about this issue. It is very troubling to me. If I had to download all tutorials I would have to purchase extra external hard drives. The Gallery by Marc Spellman alone has tons of tutorials.
I also posted on Alakazam Products Facebook page and one person confirmed that eventually I would lose all tutorials if I didn't download them. Somebody in this thread mentioned that already.
I have never received any emails from Alakazam warning about their website update.
I guess I have to wait and see if they reply to my email.

TO ALL DEALERS,
99% of you are honest people trying to earn a living from what is also your passion.
I am convinced that every dealer tries to give the best possible service.
However, the renewal of Alakazam's website revealed a weakness that the dealer in question never wanted probably.
It is a good lesson for the future and every dealer must from now on ensure that when the customer buys something, he also has the possibility to download the manual that goes with it.
Recently I experienced it AGAIN. I bought Switch-a-two and it is impossible for me to download the "repair video".
From now on I will no longer buy any product if it does not explicitly state that the manual is downloadable.

I just want to clarify my previous post.
Before I buy anything, I will email the dealer and ask if the manual is downloadable.
If not, I won't buy it.
If everyone does that, the dealers will adapt VERY quickly. Believe me.

I just received an email from Alakazam in response to my concerns. As some of you have mentioned, they are indeed changing the website.

The following is an excerpt from the email to me. I find it rather vague but I am hopeful that some of my concerns, if not all will be addressed. Kudos to Alakazm for responding so quickly.

"Initially it was understood that data stored on our current site could not be transferred and that customers should download to their own storage any digital content including academies, PDF files and streaming videos (including instructions) for their own peace of mind. This has always been recommended by Alakazam and has, since the inception of our current site, been part of our regularly updated terms and conditions.
Since this recommendation was made ( on the announcement of the new site) and set forth to customers via letter, emails and our weekly Lives, the Alakazam team (working closely with the web designers and technicians) have worked tirelessly to come up with a workable solution that will mean that data in customers’ accounts can be transferred. We are confident this working solution will help with any videos being in place within the accounts of customers on the new site, but like any other businesses that work with digital products, it is always going to be advised that this content be downloaded by the individuals themselves."

So I guess I'll just wait and see until the new site is up. We all have a three months grace period to download everything.

Why don’t they just produce a PDF and DVD with everything it’s simple as even I can do that Gaz ? 😊 ps they can still do all the other stuff if people can’t wait for the physical product so must read the tutorial first blah blah. If I can record a dvd or write and send a PDF trust me anyone can and it costs next to zero. Infact Dave Loosley had a DVD sent with it from my last Alakazam order of the Gentleman Jack wallet and that wasn’t that long ago 18 months? Envisage did too I think?

Apparently Alakazam are turning their stand at Blackpool into an I.T. bar this year, to help customers with their downloads. 😉

I can only speak for myself and I use an Apple laptop and it no longer has a DVD drive and not even a USB port! Only via external adapter cables or an external drive this is still feasible and even with so-called Pro devices! In any case, I prefer a choice in terms of how I want to store my data and preferably without additional components. The new possibilities may be advantageous for one or the other but I prefer to hold something in my hand which is also advantageous for a product sale and includes an independence from the Internet.
