I was performing at an arts festival recently, and after performing some close-up tricks, a 10-year-old girl, without irony or sarcasm or humor, politely asked, "Can you turn water into wine?"

I was so dumbfounded that I was momentarily taken aback and I couldn't get a decent comeback out. After an awkward moment, I finally said something like, "Uh, not today."

I should have said, "Only on Sundays."

"well sure I can, come back and see me when your 21!"
The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini

How to turn water into wine (for us mere mortals):

Take sip of water. Say (in a high-pitched nasal voice): "It's not cold enough...it tastes funny...I don't like it..."

Ba-dum-bum.

I had someone walk up to me after a show and ask me seriously, "do you do real magic or is it just tricks?". I've never had anyone else ever ask me that seriously.

Theyre used to be a kid at my high school who was a little "out of it" socially and I decided to do some magic for him. I said, naturally, "want to see some magic". his reply; "there isn't any real magic ANYMORE, now its all just tricks and illusions."

I did a trick for this girl who was a couple years into college, and afterwards she gave a quick scream and then immediately asked what religion I was very seriously. It was funny how she said it and how she changed so quick. Caught me off guard and I started laughing. That scared her even more.

"How'd you do that?" ... "Very carefully."
