I guess that's why they have been discontinued on Penguin.

I have seen complaints about a variety of their releases. In fact, complaints about their products are all over the Café!
All of the problems with their quality control has made me weary and I am no longer purchasing anything else from them. What a shame! |

All the welds on my set were 100%.
I posted a review on the TCC site with a photo of the rings I received. While thin, the rings themselves are very sturdy and super deceptive (i.e. my gaff ring looks 99% identical to the non gaffed rings, so if you aren't good about keeping track of the gaff, it's really hard to see! A good thing really, as you can also feel it). As far as TCC quality control goes, I have also purchased several of the TCC coin sets (HD CSB, Flipper, Sun/Moon, Hopping Half) and everything was great. Perhaps I'm just lucky, but have never had quality control issues from them. I've got their new book set on order, so we will see happens with that. |

I’ve purchased just about everything TCC’s put out through Kickstarter and 5-6 other items from their store. I’ve never had a single quality control issue.

There may be a production issue that can be solved. But, no response? That will kill future business for all of their products. Why do people go into business if they have no desire to do business? By the way, I have a cheap set of 4" rings from Robbins for less than $3.00 that is fine, so "made over there" is not the issue. Their thickness makes it difficult for some of the Lion moves, but others are OK - so the thinner rings make sense.

I own their standard sets of rings in all 5 colors. Here is what I got.
Gold- a couple of the rings has a black ring on them. Probably from the plating process. Silver- these are okay Black- these are the best of the lot. Space gray-one of the worst sets I got. One of the two linked rings was not made well and the seam is out of line and obvious. Rose gold- the other worst set. Rings are a bit rough and not smooth like with all of the others. Poor formulation of the plating or ring mold itself. So there you have it. Certainly a quality control issue. |

Just clarify about rings in general. I have no problem with a noticeable weld. With proper scripting it can be turned to an advantage.
In my "Vulcan RIng Routine" I play on the "spot welds" by calling them "Spock Melds" in Star Trek theme. The problem here is misalignment that leaves a jagged edge that can catch on finger, hand, clothing or other rings. This can mess with handling/sleights and even be dangerous for a spectator and me - people will think I own cats. Besides, the box from Penguin says, "Strive to present the very best magic products in the world." This is obviously false advertising.

My lion rings look great and work well (no rough edges, very deceptive). No trouble with the welds at all.

I like Lion Rings a lot. They are smaller, thinner and lighter than most four-ring sets, which helps with pocket space and weight. The faux leather carry-case is a nice addition and keeps the rings securely in starting position. The welds on my set are fine - it is vital that these are noticeable and any slight misalignment shouldn't be an issue. The rings handle well, though they sound a bit tinny. Hector Lion's routine is clean and logical, and it is liberating to be able to freely let go of the *** ring at any time and to openly show the four linked rings (much more practical than the Melero Rings). The sequence using the spectator's ring is terrific, although you cannot hand out the linked ring as you can with Matthew Garrett's Ninja Plus. I have always thought that Ninja Rings/Ninja Plus needs a better finale and the Lion Rings routine can very easily lead, for example, to a Ring Flight or Nest of Wallets. The tutorial is comprehensive and none of the moves are difficult. Those familiar with the Ninja Rings should have this down within a couple of days. Unfortunately the beautiful Ninja links are not possible but, on balance, the advantages of the Lion Rings outweigh the disadvantages in my opinion. I shall, however, keep both routines in my repertoire.

It shows it could be a quality control issue rather than manufacturing incompetence Which is weird, because don't they advertise a lot of their products as "passing multiple quality checks"? I know their coins do. I think Chris's point is that if you've bought them from Penguin, then it's on Penguin to replace them, not TCC. I'm not sure from your comment message if it Penguin or TCC who hasn't responded. Only TCC would be on a holiday, and I've rarely had no responses from Penguin. |

Funsway, return your rings to Penguin for a refund or store credit and when Penguin gets them back in stock you can order another set which will hopefully be better. Or get a refund and buy them from another dealer if you can find them elsewhere. HP may still have some and if you call you may be able to ask Paul to verify the quality before they are sent out.
No need to ask for anything or wait for any reply from Penguin, just fill out the return form available on their site and send it back along with your rings. They have a no questions asked return policy. |
