As seen here: https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/16810
Selling for $39.00. Looks like a wild card routine to me using some DF cards. The routine definitely looks nice but I am a little surprised by the price. Seems like a lot to pay for a few gimmick cards. I do believe if you are on David Regals mailing list he is offering it for $40 (free shipping in US) and you have the option to purchase extra gimmick cards for $5. So seems like the overhead cost for this is not much at all which is why I am surprised by the retail price. Though, it is a very good looking magical routine. Cheating Kit by David Regal is the same premise, a wild card routine, and sells for $25.00. Any thoughts?

How is it Wild Card? The ad copy is pretty clear that this is these gentlemen's handlings of McDonald's Aces.

I say Wild Card because what's happening is 4 of the picture cards used are changing into Aces (for one of the routines). The changing of cards into other cards is somewhat the same premise which is what happens in a wild card routine, in my eyes. But technically, yes, you are correct. I guess the point is that the same gaffed cards are used for both premise's which are used to change a card into a different card whether it's used to change the cards to Aces or not.

I agree with RNK. $39 is a pretty steep price. As you said, a few DF cards and a handling in which there's so many handlings on YouTube already.
Unless, there's something unique about this trick, this should had been $19.99. |

I agree with RNK, this is priced too high for an effect where most of us already have the gaffed cards and are paying for the routine.

Unless everything could be inspected?
Then...I'll be intrigued. |

That all being said, I do love the optional routines that are taught and can be accomplished with the set so I just placed my order. Also, I have been looking for a nice routine that is performed at a table which is obviously needed for this. The moves needed to accomplish the routines all look very basic from the demo yet, IMO, is a very magical. I think an audience will definitely appreciate this routine after seeing it. I forgot, for the price you do get what looks to be a decently nice wallet to carry the cards in. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have purchased it. I shouldn't be purchasing anything until my boys hockey season is over, lol! But being on David Regals mailing list and getting that extra set of cards for $5 was enticing.

Haha. You’re paying for that wallet. As if anyone here needs another one of those. Nothing new here.

John and David are two of my favorite creators, but if one already has John's awesome McDonalds's aces handling (in the glasses) and a set of the gaffs, there doesn't seem much more than that here. Well I guess the gaffs are printed using face cards which allows for an extra Regal handling, but that wouldn't be worth $40 to me.

John and David teaching is top notch, they teach you many vanishes along with subtleties for the McDonald aces, so if you don’t have this ace routine or want to take a different look imo I recommend highly.

I thought the same, $40 for 3 gimmicked cards, kind of expensive.
For sure the routines are very good, but there are sooo many routines already available that this product at this price looks superfluous |

When nothing's new, you just produce reruns of the old....i.e., the movies

Does he teach the handling in glasses in another DVD or book? It appears to be called Vino Aces and is on the World's Greatest Magic: MacDonald's Aces DVD. Cheers! Jerry |

Hi Everyone -
First off, I support everyone's right to like or dislike anything at all. That said, let me tell you what you get with Picturesque: You receive 21 cards, that's almost half a deck for you math-heads out there. Five of those cards are specially printed gaffs, the rest are the cards you need to perform the trick, should you want to present it as a stand-alone piece away from a deck. The gaffs are unique to this very beautiful version of McDonald's Aces. You receive an elegant wallet that John designed specifically for this routine. You receive one hour of video instruction. You are taught three versions of the effect, two of which (John's glass handling and my progressive handling) are not part of the standard repertoire. Special gaffs (included) are used for the progressive routine. You are taught new switches and slights that can be added to your arsenal of card weapons. John, as you know, is deservedly renowned for his intelligent and lovely card handling. His opening switch-out is the kind of thing you will cherish, as are the touches and choreography he brings to his changes. And if I am not being immodest, I came up with a couple of out there changes/vanishes that have brought something to the party. We teach about a dozen changes although the routine necessitates only three. I truly believe that if John performed his stand-up version of Picturesque at a magic convention and said the price was $75, there would be a line out the door. More importantly, when John performs this routine I've seen the looks of pure astonishment on the faces of the audience. I believe that for $40 you are receiving the best version of one of the best effects it is possible to do with cards, plus a great deal of information that's unique to this release. We partnered with Penguin on the packaging and assembly and they knocked it out of the park. I'm so, so proud to be part of something this good. |

The video demo seems like fairly stock MacDonald's aces. It's great, as MacDonald's aces pretty much always is, but where's the demo of the progressive routine? Or John's (evolution/variation?) of Vino Aces? Are they left out because they'd be easy to backtrack?
I would understand that, but it also hurts the marketing when it's just "Take our word for it, this is different from what you already have!" Especially when Vino Aces is already so great, and I can go to my library (books/video) and find many great switch out and vanish sequences. Perhaps the unique gaffs add something of value, but it's not super apparent from the demo over at penguin magic. And what about the wallet? Is it just a wallet? Or is it gaffed to help justify its inclusion here? I'm someone who doesn't want to purchase another wallet and wouldn't use it unless it was required in a certain routine. Do the routines offered here require the wallet in any way? |

There are 4 separate videos on the Penguin product page showing the different versions. The thumbnails for each are in the lower-right of the video player.

Hello Mr. Regal.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some questions about this piece! I have one more question about the gaffs provided. I don’t use the Ace of spades as the leader in the routine I do. In the gimmicks included is one of them also the ace of spades letting me use a different leader card. Appreciate you sharing more of your magical thinking with the community! Best, Brandon
We should all be in a constant state of wonder

From the trending list with tiny cut off textual items to basic navigation/discovery, your competitors have left you in the dust. Having now watched all the videos, I frankly don't see much of value to me here. But that's just me. Especially if the wallet is just a wallet. I don't need that. Otherwise, I can see this being a great product without the wallet, but with the routines/gaffs in the 20-25 dollar range. Would be especially great for those without/new to the whole MacDonald's aces plot. |
