Hey I've been doing magic for about a month now, and ive noticed that many card tricks require the need of a table, when I'm going out with my buddys and want to show them a card trick on the spot but don't have a table what should I use or do?

There is so much, I wouldn't know where to begin...
Try Color Monte or the ambitious card. |

How about Daley's last trick? There are variants of the Triumph that does not require a table.Kundalini Rising and maybe signed card to wallet.

Rtgreen is correct, there is a lot to choose from, here are a few suggestions:
-Card(s) to pocket (Francis Carlyle) -Cards across (Paul Harris, etc...) -Ambitious card -Be Honest, What is It? (Eddie Fechter) -Finger #3 (Simon Lovell) -Finger #4 (Simon Lovell) -Triumph (John Bannon and Guy Hollingworth) -Aces to Pocket (Darwin Ortiz) -Color Monte -Four of a Kind (Tamariz) -Twisting The Aces (Dai Vernon) -Dc Daley's Last Trick (Dc Daley) -Sleight of Tongue (Simon Lovell) -Red Hot Mamma -Invisible Deck -Cardtoon Etc... I hope this helps Ronnie Lemieux Montreal Canada

Sometimes you just have to improvise. Need to set a card aside? Have a spec sandwich it between their hands. Need a spread? Le Paul it! Put a foot up on a bar chair and use your leg. Use the top of a bar stool. Try to be creative and use what you have available to you.

Nice improvisation ideas Firedice.
You could always try performing Color Monte for a non-gimmicked packet effect that can be done standing. Two more effects which haven't been listed (providing you don't mind using gimmicks) are Ulti Monte and the Rising Card Deck (the spec's hand can be used as a surface for the deck to rest on).
Thanks,

You are looking for card magic without a table.
What we really need is table magic without cards! LOL! Seriously, some good advice here. My own, marketed Mirror Monte is designed to be done without a table, as is my World's Most Dangerous Card Trick. If anyone is interested, e-mail me ( showtimecol@aol.com )and I'll send you my e-mail flyer. cheers, Peter Marucci |

Any of the four tricks on the "Born to Perform" DVD by Oz Pearlman on penguin:
1) biddle trick (kinda in the spectator's hands) 2) two card monte (in the spectator's hands) 3) ambitious card routine 4) ultimate transpo (also in spectator's hand) |

I would definitely agree with using the spectators hands as a table.
Other times I would wait until we come across a table. Hiro |

Despite the prescence of a table, I think it would be best to do the magic still without the use of the table - FIND A WAY to perform it. It increases the reaction to the effect.

One of my favourite card tricks is Out Of This World (or some of its variations), but most of these do require a table.
However, Jon Allen has a very nice version (called Executive Decision, I think?) in his lecture notes that can be done in the hands. Try visiting Jon's website (http://www.close-upmagician.com/ or PM him, as he's a member of this forum. (Or wait a week or two when he will be the guest of honour.)
