Vanishing Inc messed up my order too but have gone out of their way to make it right. They purchased a deck at retail price on my behalf from Penguin Magic! I mean, I still haven't received it (fortunately I bought a back up off Facebook) and it shows complete logistical incompetence. But at least they're trying to make up for it. Others I've dealt with are far less bothered about customer service. The industry seems incapable of getting pre-orders right though.

Don't hate on them for not following up with an email on what must have been a barrage of order requests for arguably the hottest selling trick in the market at the moment. They have gone above and beyond for me so many times I've lost count. I'm not going to blast them because I didn't have the smarts to check out soon enough. You could have gone ahead and bought the effect somewhere else and if you got two, VI would have gladly taken it back, no questions asked.

First I want to say it’s the best 40 dollars I’ve ever spent, a great release by Craig Petty.
I can’t imagine it won’t get trick of the year and it’s only February. Now onto the mistake made by Vanishing Inc, everyone makes mistakes though I realize it can be frustrating. During Black Friday Vanishing Inc sold out of the dvd promo I selected and they allowed me to choose another gift and still gave me the download since the dvd was sold out. The download wasn’t even part of the promo and cost 75 dollars! I was really impressed with their customer service. I also love that they allow you to store your links and passwords from items that you bought elsewhere on your account page along with your vanishing Inc downloads. I love Vanishing Inc and even got a personal video thanking me for my large order at Christmas. |

I am very glad to hear of the grand experiences those have had with VI. It is great to know of the above and beyond efforts. My experience hasn't been so grand but instead of bashing them I just choose to shop elsewhere. On the subject of preorders, if a store can't handle a barage of orders then it can put up a notice or just do SOMETHING to help customers know that they are aware of the situation and are offering a remedy, such as a notice- We are experiencing... Please call and speak to.... etc. It isn't that difficult.

Wow! I just watched Craig Petty's Youtube video "Luke Dancy is a Liar." If you want to see passion about magic by a magician, it's a must see. Make your own judgements as to which side you're on. Aside from the passionate rant (I'm a rant connoisseur) you get to see several full and lengthy performances with the Q deck. I'm waiting on mine from Penguin and I swear it was their last unit since minutes later I saw the new March delivery date after my order. So I don't have access to the tutorial yet but the performances in the LDIAL video have already been helpful.
Craig Petty fan now and I wasn't before. I also don't think ill of Luke Dancy since I have made major **** ups in my public opinions over the years. Can't we all just get along? -Rodney King (not a magician) |

The system is so easy you can write the needed info as a crib on the back of the card box (or if you have handwriting like me, print it on a label and stick it on). With the base approach where you limit the number choice, the crib can be as simple as the chosen number, a dash, a letter (t/b), and another number. Put the case so crib is on bottom of case. When the spectator gives you the number, place the deck on table and say something appropriate like, "remember, we took all the blank cards from the case and haven't changed the order since". While saying this, pick up the case to emphasize and casually look at back of case for info for that number choice. Then put case down and slowly pick up deck in appropriate orientation and proceed as normal. The most important thing to practice is the smoothness of the dealing. That is a simple muscle memory thing which will lock in with repitition. Once you get the knack, it is unlikely you will forget it. |

Nice review Alex.
It seems to be a split on examinability...many saying it can be,many saying it's not. Very strange. I still have good vibes about this and will pick one up and see for myself. Thanks again Gerry😃 |

I can assure you a layman can examine it with complete freedom and many magicians if you set it up that way.
It’s a fearless deck to perform with, have fun with it I know I will Gaz 😊 |

If you don't want to memorize anything, perhaps being involved in magic isn't the right choice. Unless you only do self working effects, then that would make sense.
It always cracks me up when someone says a downside to an effect is that you have to think... EDIT: the post I was responding to about memorization above my post seems to have disappeared. |

Another vote here for completely examinable for lay people. Who gives a crap about fooling magicians? I think you *could* have done. But many read the Café and will have seen this thread. After all the furore surrounding this release, that horse has probably bolted.

To say that the ad copy is "misleading" is not as strong. You gave the trick 3 Stars but you left out why you will not be performing it.

As a working magician, my pockets are already full of stuff and the only extra deck (apart from a regular one) I carry is the invisible deck because it’s the strongest trick to perform with a gimmicked deck imo. So Quantum Deck won’t replace it 🙂 But that’s a « worker » concern, if pocket management isn’t an issue, it’s a nice gimmicked deck to have in your close-up case!

On Feb 18, 2022, Alex DLF wrote: I enjoyed your review. Your English is very good. Definitely will watch your other reviews. Your comments on number choices imply that the percent of positions a covered by a method is the same as the percent of performances where spectators make a choice in that range. In other words, if 40% of a range is covered than spectators will only choose a number in that range 40% of the time. That is not correct. The vast majority (probably 85%+) will naturally choose a number in the base handling's range as most spectators gravitate toward the middle choices. This is way better than an ungimmicked deck approach where a move is required 95%+ of the time. The two options are nearly polar opposites in terms of "cleanliness". Also, you don't have to do a secret move with Quantum deck ever if you don't want to. You can deal with out of base range choices in other ways. As Craig points out, he is a bit of a "move monkey" so that is the way he typically deals with it. But that isn't the only option. It should also be noted that the sleight of hand move he teaches is done in an off-beat moment that occurs PRIOR to the counting sequence. The gimmicked nature of the deck makes this possible (and actually easy). All of the ungimmicked alternatives I've seen suggested execute the move DURING the counting sequence. This is a time when the hands are being "burned" by the eyes of the spectators. Using a distraction (it is a disservice to call many of the suggested methods "misdirection") at this time breaks the counting flow muting the impact. For an effect like this, the counting should flow without any question in the spectators' minds that "funny business" occurs. Regarding use of 28, that is how I have implemented it. With a subtlety (no sleight of hand moves) the range runs from 6 to 45. Because of the patter employed, it has 100% choice in range. I literally spread cards at start from top and from bottom saying that the "hidden" card is not in half dozen on ends. With the performance patter I use this is well motivated. This still gives them what feels like an impressive free choice. In summary, I think there should be some credit given to the flexibility of Quantum Deck. Each magician can choose the blend of subtleties, sleights, and audience management that best matches the way they are comfortable performing. Craig goes over these options in detail. An intermediate+ skilled magician will be able to find a mix that they will enjoy performing and creates a big impact on the spectators. And this is with the CAAN plot. There are so many other things which Quantum Deck can be used to accomplish. |
