Hi Gang
I need some help please. A deck is borrowed/shuffled and a card openly chosen. Upon returning it to the deck I want to 'secretly' mark the rear, top left corner of the chosen card. I will not be locating the card but a 'stooged' helper will choose the card from the ribbon-spread deck... This means the mark must be fairly prominent. I am thinking along the lines of black crayon or mascara on tip of LH thumb..... just enough to smudge/mark the card. Any ideas please on the best/most convenient marker that will be suitable for the job? Cheers John Breeds |

If your stooge can see the ribbon spread deck but your spectator cannot, then it seems that you could dispense with marking and simply corner crimp the card. That way, you could remove the crimp and no one will be the wiser. If your spectator CAN see the ribbon spread deck, then the crimp will also be less obvious that some substance put there with your thumb.

Thanks for great answers guys. Unbelievably very helpful.
Trenchant; Sorry, I didn't make it clear that I will be secretly priming a spectator 'during the trick' to choose the marked card. He sits alone at the table facing the audience. Members of audience shuffle the deck, card chosen, and I place card back into the deck..... perhaps then another shuffle from audience member. I then ribbon-spread the deck in front of the helper, and, after some deliberation, he chooses the (marked) card. I am about 10 miles away from the deck by now, so it seems like an impossible location by the spectator/helper. The stooge doesn't know he will be a stooge until he opens the box of matches to remove his 'magic wand.' This is why I cannot explain things like corner crimps, etc at that stage. Best wishes John Breeds |

If you're using a box of matches you could put the ***b on the box's striking surface, sort of like what I'd mentioned in the p.m. I'd sent you. It would provide a very covered obtaining of the ***b.

Yes, that's exactly what came to mind when I read (and thought about) the contents of your detailed PM. Grateful thanks John Breeds |
