Obviously, for me at least, there was no point in going out 2020 OR 2021. I'm hopeful for this year.

However, I've discovered the electronic tip service I signed up for "busktip.com" has gone out of business. As I'd not gone out, I had no chance to use it, and they mentioned that they only sent notices to people who'd used the app in the past year.

They suggested "busk.co," where I'm already registered, but I don't think they handle digital tips. Any suggestions?

Let me add, busk.co suggests PayPal or stripe to get digital tips. But, how do I communicate that to the audience?

I would suggest Venmo or Zelle

You should print up a sign with QR codes and tape it to your case/table. Or create some cards/slips of paper with them on for people to use.

Links on how to create QR codes for most popular online payment/money transfer apps are listed below. Of course you have to have an account set up for each. I'd recommend setting up seperate bank account for performing, then use that when setting up the apps. Keep things seperate and easier to track...Have fun!

PayPal

Venmo

Zelle

OK, to get the code, I have to have a BUSINESS PayPal account. I'll have to look into what that will entail, and transfer money to a dedicated "magic" checking account. I'm not good at complicated. Smile

I'll look into the others and compare later.

If you contact Busk.co and set up an account, still free I think, you'll get an account and web page on their site and they will help you get a placard with a QR code and just put it out and people can scan it and pay you, they take a miniscule fee per transaction. I've been with them for a few years and its gotten better each year, accept 2021 which as you said Ed, I didn't get out much, maybe 3 times total. Just like the other services that imgic lists, you can set up the page and have people pay, but I found this one is more in line with buskers needs.

This is it folks. imgic is correct, the QR code has saved me too! Many buskers use this method of tips. The Tip Jar QR code as its called.

I use https://www.paypal.com/us/brc/article/ho......-qr-code that imgic mentioned above and print on a 18x24 vinyl sign. Once the money is in PayPal you can transfer instantly to your linked account. I believe it is a percentage but a max of $15 to do instant transfer. It can be in your magic account within minutes of the tip being received.

Now I know that all you 'Sidewalk Shufflers' report ALL your busking income.....

Just take note that if you have a business account, Paypal is required to report your earnings for taxation.

A paper trail is one of the biggest drawbacks to Electronic Tips.

Yes, you are correct. However, I feel many of the electronic tips are tips I would not have gotten otherwise. I may be wrong.

Well, I've just set up a Chime account for my paycheck and Social Security payments. This leaves my REGULAR checking account free to tie into this.

I rarely post but I will throw my 2 cents. Years ago I ventured into trying for the digital tips such as Square and other credit cards. They did not work well in cities in the USA. Three years or so ago I used paypal, venmo and cash app.

During pandemic times, venmo did wonderfully. Cash app was added later because after I would plug my venmo and people would ask me if I had cash app.

Sometimes in the apps it will bother some patrons to confirm their payment with the last four numbers of a performers phone, patrons can skip or you can show this number on a sign or other means.

Today I would say I only get about 10% of the tips in digital form but sometimes the tips could be larger in digital form.
