In this installment of "Slydini - The Legacy" my father fondly remembers Slydini's "Cup and Sponge" routine. I hope you enjoy it. Happy Holidays to all of our friends and colleagues in magic. Here's to a wonderful 2024!

In today's installment of "Slydini - The Legacy" my father remembers his friend, teacher and mentor, Tony Slydini and shares some little known Slydini history. I hope you enjoy it. From my dad:

"Today, January 15, 2024 marks the 33rd anniversary of the passing of my friend, teacher and mentor Tony Slydini. I have made it a tradition each year to write a small tribute to him on this day. It always seemed like a very small “thank you” that I could give to him. This year, I thought I would use a video instead and also relay some little known Slydini history."

Thank you, Wravyn. It's not "officially" part of "Slydini - The Legacy" but here's a just-posted Youtube video of my father performing Slydini's "Paper Balls To the Box" in 1983-1984ish. I thought I would add to the thread as well. I hope everyone enjoys it! More "Slydini - The Legacy" entries to come! (And, allow me to say, if you thought what has been posted before is good, yeah.... just wait) Smile

Hi all,

After a 5 month break, my father has just updated Slydini - The Legacy. Slydini had important thoughts on the correct way to do the "Thumb Clip". Most do it incorrectly. This post will show you the way that Slydini taught my dad how to do it. Hope you enjoy. - Kevin

Hi all,

In my father's latest edition of "Slydini - The Legacy" he expresses his deepest gratitude to Mr. Georges Proust for the release of "Slydini by Slydini". In addition, my dad corrects Mr. Richard Kaufman of Genii Magazine. He also includes (see below) an exclusive instructional video clip of his "Bill Wisch's Definitive Lesson of Slydini's Helicopter Card." If you have expressed interest in his DVD, he has some exciting news coming soon. If you have not, please reach out to him via email at bill@wisch-craft.com to express interest. Thank you!

What were Slydini's thoughts on video being taken of his magic? Hear his thoughts directly from him and my father's perspective on the newly released "Slydini by Slydini" project in this latest edition of "Slydini - The Legacy".

A rare back-to-back entry in "Slydini - The Legacy". This entry focuses on a little known simple effect using the tiniest of Slydini's subtleties with a rubber band. I hope you enjoy it!

My father and I were recently viewing a podcast of "The Magic Guys" and Doug Conn misstated some important facts about Cellini and his relationship with Slydini. In this new entry of, "Slydini - The Legacy" my father and I set the record straight. I hope you enjoy it.

It's been a while since the last Slydini - The Legacy Update (July!), but here's a new entry for the holidays.
My father has shared a lesser-known moment involving Slydini and a simple spoon. It is one of those small, spontaneous ideas that turned into something unforgettable at the table.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hi all,
In today's "Slydini - The Legacy" post, my father is releasing the full 1991 Phan Thumb Technique video for free - the original where the Wisch Wedge was first shown. He also shares a 2006 conversation with Ken Krenzel that ended with his words: "Yeah, you're right. That's not my move," and why he values straight talk when someone asks about his work. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the share with the magic community.

I especially appreciate the way you posted the video as an unlisted video.

"I have decided to release the complete 1991 Phan-Thumb Technique video for free to everyone. This is the original recording where the move was first presented on video. It is embedded below as a private, non-searchable YouTube link."

Your careful handling of this is appreciated because I have been thinking a lot recently about how depressing it is that many magicians don't understand (or just don't care) how to use YouTube in a smart way , but will foolishly post videos set to Public access with no concern for how they are exposing the details of the art. Even worse are companies like Murphy's Magic who have posted large segments from the former L & L Publishing video library on YouTube , exposing (so far) The Linking Rings (Vernon's routine, in particular), The Salt/Sugar vanish using a Thumb Tip (Richard Osterlind's handling), The Elmsley Newspaper Tear, The Chop Cup (Larry Jennings routine), Al Schneider's Coins Across, The Bill In Lemon, Card Warp (Roy Walton) , Out Of This World (Curry), Card to Wallet, and dozens of other classics taught in great detail , excerpted from the World's Greatest Magic DVD series and various other L & L Publishing DVDs -- which Murphy's now owns , having purchased the L & L video library after the passing of Louis Falanga -- as part of their "Saturday Sorcery" series on YouTube. Murphy's could choose to restrict the access to these videos by making them Unlisted or Private, the links only available for viewing to customers who have intentionally signed up for the Saturday Sorcery membership via Murphy's email list. I very much doubt that the people teaching these routines (such as Jeff McBride, Dan Harlan, Richard Osterlind, Dai Vernon, Alex Elmsley, Larry Jennings, Al Schneider , Michael Ammar, and many others) who appeared over the years in the L & L line of teaching videos would have given their consent to have their teaching spread about on the internet in this careless manner, but unfortunately Murphy's own the legal rights to these videos and can do whatever they want with the videos. Material that Murphy's should preserve in sacred trust for the magic community is instead being exploited to promote their business. It's all about generating social media engagement.

Magicians - if you are asked to do a lecture which will be recorded or to make a video tutorial series for some company , make sure you read the contract carefully to be sure that you are not agreeing to let the material be re-packaged and re-used in any way beyond the original intent , either by the current distributor of the video or some future distributor of the video if they sell the rights to another company.

Thank you so much David for your very kind words. I greatly appreciate it and I agree in all respects.

For today's entry into "Slydini - The Legacy", A hilarious true story from Thanksgiving 1976 at the top of the World Trade Center... Slydini, a group of magicians, and one very loud balloon artist who made the mistake of asking the master a simple question.
The result? One of the greatest one-liners in magic history.
