The Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich is the whole point of the trick. Hundreds of magicians do this in their birthday shows in people’s homes all the time.
There are many things that children can be allergic to in addition to peanuts. Perhaps we should not give out candy and god knows what else. The Peanut Butter sandwich I end up with is (as I stated above) is in a zip lock bag. Just like wrapped candy. I do not give it to a kid and say, “here, eat this kid.” What a child puts into his mouth in someone’s house is under the control of adults other than me. Seldom does anyone want to eat the sandwich. The magic is that it is there at all. For over 12 years, I have asked a parent to make the sandwich for me in their kitchen. I have PB&J with me and they always enjoy helping out. For those rare times when a child wants to eat the sand switch, I let the parent know the birthday mom made it. At the risk of being redundant, the sandwich IS the trick. To suggest an “alternate” finish/hand out would be ludicrous. I fear there are people out there that would “sanitize” children’s magic to boredom. Bob |

When I make the sandwich for the final I put the peanutbutter on the outside of the bread/sandwich and the jelly on the outside of the other piece/sandwich.
In a ziplock. No one would want to eat it and it creates a very funny ending. Bob |

The Bruce Bray routine I mentioned above does not use the whole peanut butter and jelly sandwich part. Ken Scott also has a good routine on his video which does not use the sandwich part.

Relax, Bob, I was just asking ...
As for "hundreds of magicians" doing it, for me that has never been a good enough reason for ANYTHING. Hundereds of magicians do some pretty dorky stuff. I reiterate, I LIKE the trick, but coming up with an alternate ending does not necessarily translate into "sanitizing" it OR making it boring. On the contrary, doing something different should be desirable, otherwise we'll ALL be like those "hundreds of magicians" doing the same trick the same way! |
