Its been 12 1/2 years since I asked this question:
https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......&start=0 How have things changed? Hank Lee and Magic Emporium are gone, and sadly, so is D & L Magic. It seems that Hocus-Pocus and Penguin are top dogs these days. Both have a good selection, a fair price, and excellent customer service. I especially like Hocus-Pocus's Private Estate section. You can find some rare and unusual merchandise there. What are your 2022 favorites?

Wherever is cheapest for the particular item I'm looking for,
(that's selling the item legally of course). Penguin is cheapest for most things because of there free shipping, Amazon also has decent prices for a lot of things. obviously for pre owned things watching ebay is the place to look usually, for generic props I sometimes buy from aliexpress, be warned a lot of there stuff is knock offs, and not very good knock offs more often than not. I once got a chop cup from aliexpress that was good though. I find it best just to search for a specific prop everywhere, the most recent thing I was looking for was cheapest at walmart.com of all places. |

As I stated in another topic, I can't believe that Hocus-Pocus is still in business with their ridiculous shipping costs when everyone else has free shipping. Unless you're getting the used or offbeat stuff you can't get anywhere else, I can't imagine why anyone would buy from Hocus-Pocus. I have particularly had excellent customer service from Vanishing Inc. |

In the last year I have purchased from:
Hocus Pocus Penguin Vanishing Inc. Theory 11 I have also purchased directly from a whole host of magic creators that sell their own products, rather than selling to distributors or retailers. Benke Smith and András Bártházi are two good examples. Mark

Penguin is my first choice. Their over the top customer service has made me a lifetime customer. Vanish Inc. is my second for things I can't get from Penquin.

Yes, really. If producers/creators are going to have their effects made in China in order to bring in larger profits then they certainly won't mind if customers buy those effects from China in order to bring larger discounts.

Those 100 units they sell for next to nothing is pure profit for them with nothing going to the creator. If you are OK with that, then I don't know what to tell you. This will eventually drive creators to either not release effects, or have them made elsewhere (if possible) which will be more expensive and will be reflected in the market price. I know if I was a creator I would not be happy with this situation. |

I have ordered with success from Penguin, Alakazam, Saturn, Ickle Pickle, PropDog, AirShip Magic, Sterlini, Abbotts, SEO Magic, Mark Mason JB Magic US. It all depends on what I am looking for.

Ordering from Canada, I have happily and repeatedly ordered physical items from Vanishing Inc, Theory 11, Saturn, Hanson Chien, Henry Harrius, Todsky’s and my local Browser’s Den.
My only unsuccessful order was a Jan 11th order from Penguin that still hasn’t made it to me. I am repeatedly told to remain patient and that it will arrive any time soon—which I find a bit disappointing TBH. |

I used to use hocus pocus but the shipping costs made me look elsewhere. Now Vanishing Inc is my favorite magic site. Occasionally ellusionist has a sale and I'll use them but for the most part it's Vanishing inc for me

I forgot to mention Meir Yedid as a dependable source of magic effects and supplies that I've used.

Penguin Magic consistently for me.
They have been offering free shipping for quite some time now - worldwide. That is almost unbeatable. |

1. Vanishing Inc.
2. Penguin Magic. The above are interchangeable. I'm based in Australia so the free shipping these guys both offer helps. Plus they have always been very helpful and responsive. I have ordered from many of the above mentioned and haven't had troubles with any that I can recall. |
