Can someone give me some tips on the edge palm? I have Bobo's book, but whenever I move the clipped coin to my palm, it falls flat before I can retain it in an edge palm.

Try to grab the coin with your palm muscles. This works for ONE coin.

Just getting the coin into position is a good way to learn WHERE coins need to be placed.

Never mind, I just realized I was holding it at the wrong angle... I was accidently pointing the coin downwards instead of upwards. >.<!!!

I agree cloneman! the edge grip and edge palm are different things tho. edge palm is page 2 of new modern coin magic. winged silver on edge in roths book shows edge grip

I STINK at edge palm & cant even imagine what it must be like to control multiple coins in this fashion, and I use edge grip too much (but it is just so cool ) -- I am currently working on remedying both problems.

You also must clarify that Roth's edge GRIP(not palm), is not as deep as Harbottle's and therefore the angles are worse. Look into Harbottle's, but again you were talking about edge palm.

What coin sizes are you using? try larger coins like 1/2 dollar or dollar coins, the larger the coin the easier it is to load it into edge palm until you acquire the required dexterity with your fingers.

Justin, congratulations on being able to do this, it's a bit of a lost skill. That means that if you can come up with ways to exploit it, you'll have something unique that will tend to fool magicians, too.

The Edge palm was widely used for managing large stacks of coins during stage routines. See Hugard's "Coin Magic" for some examples. The number of coins you can hold in Downs palm is pretty much limited by the thickness of the coins, and the width of your thumb, although in "Lower Downs Palm", you can get in a few more. When you're trying to conceal or transfer more than 4 or 5 coins, edge palm is usually the technique of choice.

Two things to master before you can claim real proficiency: The one at a time vanish and reproduction of a number of coins from edge palm, and the edge palm to edge palm transfer, as an acquitment for a stack.

Once you're able to transfer a stack from REP to LEP as you openly pass a wand from L hand to R, then you're ready to tackle the one classic EP close-up trick. Seek out an old Genii magazine article describing Dr. Sawa's "Slot Machine" routine.

After that, you might like this. I've been playing with a hidden transfer from hand to hand that goes like this: Stack is in LH Downs palm. As the hands approach, the stack is brought to the fingertips as if you were going to produce it. Instead, the stack is fed directly into REP.

Lots of potential, but no routines yet. Good luck with it.

Oh I love it! Thanks Curtis and I'll get to work asap...as far as lower downs palm, (if that mimics Harbottle's EG, I can fit 7 liberty halfs, but I use 4 when going in and out of vanish and production one at a time) is this similar to a lateral palm only the coins are horizontal as opposed to vertical as in coming from a mutobe position?

Also the edge palm to me will be much harder to master than deep e.g. but you certainly got me motivated now. Thanks again and tell Kainoa Hi too if you see him before I do.
