Dear folks
The Deck is in Stebbins Stack. A spectator who cuts it at any place and deals SEVEN CARDS in a face down in a line on the table. He then looks at any of these cards, remembers it, takes up the other six, and mixes his card among them. He hands the packet to the magician, who looks through the cards and removes one of them, tabling it face down. The spectator is asked to name the card and when the performer turns over the card, he holds it proves to be the same one. Note: The seven cards are dealt from the middle and there is no peeking of any other cards from the deck. The method is to ease the finding of the card without rearranging the stack Does this idea already exists, please https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R1i8zIT......=sharing

Not to my knowledge... ... nice thinking. The benefit is the "shortcut" to rearrange the stack (of 7 cards). Generally of course, this exists already as a common technique using a memorized stack which allows for an even quicker procedure as (if you know your stack really well and "cold") it takes just a moment (a glance) to find the card with the lowest stack number and then you know all... I guess the given method is too complicated. I suggest a simpler way:
The fourth card in any stack of alternating suits (it doesn’t have to be Si Stebbins) is the only card of that suit. From this card, one has to go in that stack at most 3 cards forward or backward to find the spectator‘s card. Or use a memdeck, as Jan mentioned. |

Obviously, threre’s more than one way to skin a cat. Here’s the simple way I’d go about it, which ignores the suits altogether, besides the middle one, but it's a no-brainer.
If the spec is dealing the cards, more than likely they’ll start dealing the 7 cards face down from right to left, from your pov, assuming you’re facing them. Now, as already observed the centre card (4th) is the unique card of its suit, so if it’s chosen, there’s no much of mental work to do here. Now, the other 6 cards will be paired, ie there’ll be 3 pairs of each suit, and within each pair the numerical difference will be one. As an example, let’s say the spec deals these 7 cards; the deal started from their left, therefore it’s card number 1. The 7th card, is the last one dealt, the leftmost one from the performer’s perspective. 07 06 05....04 03 02 01 6S 3H KC 10D 7S 4H AC Notice the singleton 10D, and 3 pairs {AC,KC}, {4H,3H}, {7S,6S}. As mentioned, within each pair, the difference is 1. So, to take advantage of this, remember the position of the selected card: 1 to 3 on your Right (i.e. before the centre card) or 1 to 3 on your Left (i.e. after the centre card). If the card touched was on your left, multiple its position by 3 and add it to the value of the centre card (10 in the example above): (Your) Left card in position: 1. 3 * 1 = 3 -> 10 + 3 = 13 -> K -> KC 2. 3 * 2 = 6 -> 10 + 6 = 16 (mod 13) -> 3 -> 3H 3. 3 * 3 = 9 -> 10 + 9 = 19 (mod 13) -> 6 -> 6S Therefore, the card value matching the computed value will be the selected card. You don’t have to worry about the suit, as there won’t be any ambiguity, i.e. the value will be unique. If the card touched was on your right, proceed exactly as the scenario above, but add one to the computed value: (Your) Right card in position: 1. 3 * 1 = 3 -> 10 + 3 = 13 + 1 = 14 (mod 13) -> 1, i.e. Ace -> AS That's it. But there's even a stronger effect here as you can identify the chosen card without even having to look at the cards. Once the 7 cards have been dealt, get the deck back an peek at the bottom card of the deck. The centre card dealt (4th) will be of the same suit and of value one less than the deck bottom card. You'll be able to calculate the value easily as explained above and it won't be a challenge to get the suit as you've got the CHaSeD mnemonic to guide you. Sure, the effect is easier with a memdeck, but it's a good substitute for people who haven't yet mastered one. |

With a bit of thought, you can turn this into a real great stage trick - though close-up is still possible. The performer keeps his back turned during the selection procedure and all cards are returned to the deck which is cut multiple times. And still s/he finds the selected card.
