Does anyone else here remember The Wizard magic shop on Pearl Street in Boulder , Colorado ? The last time I visited it would have been in about 1976 or 1977 , if memory serves . I heard some time later that the shop had closed .

It was a very nice shop, beautiful layout and decor, full of quality magic items and books. I forget the name of the proprietor (but the first name Sam rings a bell) . I only went there a few times when I was visiting the Denver area , but each visit was special and I purchased some really good items there (including a Rings 'N' Things zombie ball ) . If anyone else knows more about it and when it closed down (and why) I would be interested to read about it.

I remember the place well. It opened just as I was graduating from U of Colorado. Pearl Street wasn't a mall yet. Wish I could remember the owner's name though! A friend of mine was good buddies with him.

The place opened during the rebirth of magic that occurred due to the TV show 'The Magician' with Bill Bixby....Everyone wanted to do magic tricks then!

I remember one time there, he was really excited to show a new effect he had learned. It was the long needle that you would stick through your forearm and blood would drip down it...very realistic!

Hey, Marc. Thanks for the response. Well, at least one other person remembers The Wizard .

The '70's magic scene about 1973 - 1979 : Bill Bixby in "The Magician" , Mark Wilson seemed to be on TV all the time (including his involvement with "The Magician" , of course) and with his own show Magic Circus , Doug Henning on Broadway in "The Magic Show", then his live television specials , other major magic specials on network TV at Thanksgiving and Christmas time , a steady stream of magic acts on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, plus magicians featured on daytime TV shows like Dinah Shore, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas. Ah , yes , I remember it well .

The proprietor of The Wizard shop in Boulder in the late 1970s was my old buddy Sam "The Hat" Kent. He still can be seen from time to time at our magic convention, Magic in the Rockies in Fort Collins, Colorado in September.

The effect with the long needle and blood was You Do Voodoo, invented by Colorado magician Bruce Spangler and later made famous by Harry Anderson. ("Lady, it's just a TRICK!")

There was another coin and sleight-of-hand guy who worked in the shop named Lamont Ream. Mike Cavney published Lamont's book on coin magic in the late 1970s or early 1980s, if I recall. Lamont can be seen at the Jester's Dinner Theatre in Longmont, Colorado.

I remember when Lamont performed at the airplane restaurant in Erie. A giant plane turn into a restaurant. Took some lessons from his, still have his book.
