So, for a number of years, I've been using a silk wonder box (the standard, inexpensive steel one) to produce an American Flag at a ceremony I regularly work at. The flag that I use, an old one, measures about 12 x 18. Recently, I bought a much larger, 36" x 22" flag which is just beautiful, but doesn't really fit in the box. Looking for recommendations:
Does anyone have a source for a silk wonder box that has a large capacity? Failing that, I noticed the Adair Triangle Box and was wondering if anyone has any experience with that -- how well is it constructed, will it last and what are the angle problems with that? Any other thoughts? Thanks. Gary |

I don't know the routine you use, but I recently tried a phantom tube for part of a comedy routine. I show the tube "empty", I put 4 silks into the tube, then pull out 2 or 3 other silks one at a time, using it as a switching device. The initial 4 silks kind of lodge themselves into the tube and stay there so then I can pull out the other ones, it effectively does the same thing as change bag. You could also use it just as a production tube, rather than a switch prop, which is how I'm guessing most people use it.

Some other production props you could use are:
"AVC Box" from Fairchild Magic (Laflin Magic also sells this same prop sometimes, but it currently says on their website that it's sold out): http://www.fairchildmagic.com/fairchild_magic_v3_063.htm https://laflinmagicstore.com/products/av......75041060 For some reason, the price isn't showing for this item on the Fairchild site, so you might have to ask him through the contact page: http://www.fairchildmagic.com/fairchild_magic_v3_002.htm "Massal Tube" from Laflin Magic (they sell 2 Sizes): https://laflinmagicstore.com/collections......archment https://laflinmagicstore.com/collections......sal-tube "Super Screen" from Barry Mitchell (customizable version of UF Grant's Temple Screen): https://barrymitchellproducts.com/produc......e-screen - Donald

P.S. I vanish a 36" picture silk in a "Switch Can" (aka Merry Switch Can) in one of the routines in my magic shows, and I've also used the prop to switch a smaller rabbit in hat silk for a 45" Ta-Da Bunny Silk.
So, if your new 36" x 22" flag is silk, you could even use a "Switch Can" to make the flag appear. The "Switch Can" is available from many magic dealers.

The good old Grant Temple Screen will do the trick and it packs flat.

Hello Gary
A medium to large size Drum Head Tube will fill the bill nicely. We use one with an audience member capping one end of the tube with rare and valuable Magic Wishing Paper. Next she places a blank silk handkerchief inside and seals the second end with another piece of Magic Wishing Paper. (Along the way she accidentally tears the valuable and rare Magic Wishing paper. When the roll is introduced to tear off another piece of rare Magic Wishing Paper, there's always a laugh.) Note at this point the spectator has done ALL the handling. Next a card is "freely" selected from a well-shuffled deck. When the silk handkerchief is removed from the tube by the spectator, it has a large picture of the selected card thereon. If rather than the handling with the card selection, your routine is better served by simply producing the flag silk, that's OK. Julie |

The Mystery Emporium (themysteryemporium1@gmail.com) had a jumbo wonder box a few months back. But not sure they are still in business as I haven't received any notices from them in the last couple months.
Jonathon Neal Brown details a couple different methods for producing LARGE loads from a wonder box in his excellent book on the subject. There is a topic on the Café about it. But it is in the context of an inexhaustible box routine where an amazing amount is being produced from the box, not a one off production. This said, is there any reason you wouldn't just flash produce it without any apparatus? With a proper roll like the one Paul Diamond teaches in Symphonette of Silks or the John Booth roll David Ginn teaches for free on his website, you could produce it out of thin air (or via blendo) with no hassle and instant applause. See here for example of David Ginn using the John Booth roll for a flash appearance in context of a blendo: |

Frank is exactly correct... I wouldn't use a Wonder Box for a Blendo. but the John Booth Fold (Silk encyclopedia or Marvels of Mystery) as shown in the Dvid Ginn video above... is a wonderful solution to the problem!

Trickbooks,
Contact JNeal, the published a booklet on a great production effect with the Silk Wonder Box in 2019. His routine is very wonderous, and is a very large production, ending with a large silk streamer. Your Flag would work well for the ending, then continue with your ideas. Read about it here: https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......forum=54 |

If he likes the concept of a Wonder Box for a simple production, he would probably love your handling of the chinese mat. It should be large enough to handle the flag. I would probably attached one end to gimmick so that when one corner is pulled from tube, the other corner would be held in place so flag is stretched properly between the hands with no fumbling. |
