I have a strong feeling Murphy’s will create a brand new thread for this effect once it’s officially released on May 6th.

If its practical and doesn't mess up someones nice watch (or mine while practicing), I'm in.

Very interested in this. Have to agree though, hope there’s no long lasting issues with specs watch. That could prove very embarrassing 😳

Is it safe to do this effect on a very expensive watch? Rolex, Breitling, Vacheron and other watches costs a fortune.

That is the question indeed. I'm assuming the gimmick is the old tried and true method for this sort of thing. If so, in doing a quick google search along with some searches on threads here on the Café, it seems like it could be harmful. Might not be worth the risk?

But with the tried and true method doesn’t the gimmick have to be constantly making contact with the watch to keep it stopped? It says you can freely hand the watch out in this

There have been a few gimmicks in the past that operated in a way like sleepy said having to have direct contact. This however from the trailer is hands free, no contact and even being quite a distance away. Menny has a very creative mind and some of his effects are very clever and genius. Excited for this also in the hope of safety and risk factors to watch damage has all been thoroughly tested and trialed which I’m sure it has. |

Long time ago I played with the CTC Gimmick from P. Eggink and came up with the idea to stop a Clock on the wall with it. Never tried it but I think it's this sort of Gimmick.

Good points Sleepy and Roberto.
Now, granted I'm no great mind, but I can't think of any other way this could be achieved otherwise? Especially at the price point. Seems like they are playing up the value of the Master Class teachings on this plot vs the actual apparatus. Which is leading me to believe that it's a variation of the same. As long as it's safe, I'm still in. |

It seems to me that all the demo watches were quartz watches and no mechanical watches were used.

The trick looks awesome! A really valuable idea, even if it uses old methods.
I remember having an embarrassing moment (to say the least) long ago by stopping a $5000 Rolex and didn't restart after 2 minutes. I'm sure Menny has all these details well covered. Looking forward to see it. |

While I don't know the method for sure, I can pretty much say that you would NOT want to try this on any standard wrist watch that is windup like a Rolex , for example. Battery operated probably are OK. I base this on my past as a jeweler.

To be honest I would be very wary of anyone trying to interfere with the workings of my watch, automatic watches are very sensitive and imagine the problems you may get if the watch starts to loose time or even worse stops permanently.
If it’s the old method which most of us know it’s a definite no for me….but hopefully it’s something different?
