Other than palming or copping, what are some relatively easy ways to make it seem like you've made the spectator's chosen card disappear?

Ok, here's a bit of context about what I want to do: I'm thinking of showing the cards one by one to show that their card has disappeared while doing Woody Aragon's Separagon (in preparation for doing OOTW or a full-deck Oil & Water next).

Maybe won't suit your purpose, but a couple more ideas -
1. Double Face cards 2, Mis-indexed cards 3. There is an old (Eddie Joseph ?) trick where the cards in a deck are counted. There are only 51, and the spec's card is missing. On the whole, a mem-deck is going to aid almost any method (as already mentioned). Simon Aronson has a great trick called The Invisible Card. Any card is named. It is shown to be missing from the deck. Then it magically re-appears reversed in the deck. Requires a mem-deck. Apart from that, it is really easy handling. |

I don't know if this would work with Separagon, but you might be interested anyway. Works with a shuffled, un-gimmicked deck.
Control the selection to the top of the deck. Spread the cards (face up) one by one from right hand to left hand. (Secretly count as you do this). Keep your left index finger on the outside corner of the "stock" of cards in the left hand. When you get to number 50, push this card across as usual with the left thumb, making sure to keep the last TWO cards (51 & 52) aligned. Then transfer these across as one, as you casually close the deck. [If you use a mem-deck you will recognise when you get to the penultimate card, so no need to count.] I am merely a beginner/intermediate at sleights - but this seems pretty easy to me. UPDATE - I just watched a video of Separagon. He goes through the deck face-up tossing the cards face-down. I reckon the technique above should work, as the cards are in a pretty messy pile anyway. |

Execute a card-to-wallet, bring out the wallet, open it and remove a bank note to show what you once lost betting on this trick (for instance). Put the bill away and set the wallet on the table. Proceed with your act, revealing the card in the wallet at an appropriate time.

Larry Becker has a great effect in his book Stunners Plus called the "Power of Suggestion".
A thought of card vanishes from the deck and can be produced however you want to do it. No gimmicks. Just need a full 52 card deck. |

Spectator lifts top of deck to look at and memorize card that is there at face of that upper block. When you tap the top card of the tabled half deck, you had previously moistened tip of first finger. If an after drinks trick, many opportunities. When the top block is replaced, those 2 cards cling. The selection and the moistened one. As you deal the deck out and count, you'll deal a double at that spot automatically and their card won't show and you end with a 51 count. Either Scarne or Curry or earlier perhaps.

I just tried Gregg's moistened card suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't work at all for me.
R&S has already been mentioned. A similar option (which I find much more reliable) is Science Friction. In this case you need SF on the back of your "camouflage" card (CC). Then you need to get the selection on top of that card. There are many ways to do this. The simplest is probably to have the CC in top of the deck, and swing cut for the spec to replace the selection on top. Or you could cull the selection to where the CC is. Or cull the CC to wherever they return the selection. Lots of options. If you just want to do a false count, as I mentioned above, I would actually recommend getting the selection to second-from-top. This means you do the sleight as you count the penultimate count rather than the final one. This is better disguised. It's easy to do a double push-off when you are only holding 3 cards. |

Card Vanish by Marty Grams. It's on his Easy Card Tricks You Can Make at Home dvd. He makes it with a short card, but I prefer making it with a corner short card for better invisibility when you spread the cards and go through each card looking for the specks card. I also hide the "selected" card with a Joker so when the selected card is reproduced you have a complete deck to work with.

I failed to mention, pnerd, that you are free to go through each and every card tossing them to the table, if you choose to do so instead of a ribbon spread, without fear of exposing the method. No worry of card separation. A rough and smooth, or a science friction type card can separate and expose the selected card when you do not want that if you choose to toss them to the table..... "as I go through each card, stop me when I come to your card." They will be amazed that their card, though the deck is freely handled, has truly disappeared.
