Having fun with Fouquet's 'Incredible Appearing Nothing' packet trick. It entails a 2-as-4 count which is both clunky and knacky.
Just wondering whether anyone recalls a half-decent 2-As-4 count out there? I've certainly seen one over the years, but cannot trace any. It is a notoriously tricky count to pull off cleanly. |

Depending on what resources you have available, you might try looking though this list.
https://www.conjuringarchive.com/list/se......ur+count Counts or displays can look klunky at times. There have been some good discussions about counts versus displays. One way that I look at it is counts are something which is under more scrutiny while displays are more casual in nature. What I mean is in some counts you demand that the spectator pay attention and focus on the cards. You point out the number of cards, or you point out the values, colors or even specific suits. In a display, you might even be doing the same mechanics but the purpose might be different. Showing cards all face-down for example. You aren't worried about how many there are, you are just showing that all of however many you hold are indeed face-down cards. Same with some of the EC effects where the first card is shown twice. You want to downplay that and so you do the count casually, not drawing too much scrutiny. So the patter might be "As you can see, I've got four aces" in stead of "I've got the ace of hearts, the ace of spades, etc.". And so in the 2 as 4 count, I think the attitude should be more casual. And so "here I have four face-down cards" as you casually and smoothly count them is the way to go. Don't encourage folks to burn your hands while you do it. Mechanics should always be good, but attitude is a major factor too when it come to success.
It's never crowded on the extra mile....

It simply takes practice to get it smooth. Take a look at Peter Pellikaan's videos -- he uses it a lot and does it very well.

I think the 2 as 4 is simply repeating the EC action multiple times. It's relatively to pick up.

Actually the DM Count is not so easy to master. I've seen Daryl perform it on some YouTube videos and it looks very convincing in his hands.

You could count the first, fake take the 2nd, count the third as you do the Elmsley maneuver, then count the fourth. With the right rhythm and some subtle card snapping (nothing too fancy) as you count, it flows.

Stephen Hobbs Technical Toolbox has a section on false counts. He has a system he calls the Control Grip. This helped me improve my Elmsley & Jordan. He also says his system facilitates a wealth of other counts. (EG he as a version of the Elmsley Count that leaves the cards exactly as they started). I'm sure there are several examples of 2-as-4.

Paul Harris counted 2 cards as 4 on one of his Stars of Magic dvd's. I think it was his performance/explanation of Tap Dancing Aces.

I just checked; Stephen Hobbs has three 2-as-4 counts.
All of them have one of the "visible" cards on top (obviously!) The second visible card can be in position 2, 3 or 4. So three variations, covering all 2-as-4 possibilities. |
