There are a lot of great magicians. Everybody is into differnt things I guess. Here are my personal favorites on stage.
1.) Jeff McBride 2.) Manuel Muerte 3.) Peter Marvey (Best Card Manipulation ever) 4.) The Amazing Jonathan Here are some great stage magicians just to name a few. (According to me anyway. I find Manuel Muerte's stuff paticularly interesting). Quote:

David Copperfield. There are many obvious reasons and many sublte reasons why he's the best. One of the obvious reasons is because of his sheer energy and love for what he does, which has resulted in over 500 shows performed ever year for the past 20+ years!

I appreciate the technique of Jeff McBride and Tony Clark but for me technique is the most "easy" part to any kind of art. The most difficult part that you can not learn it is the style, the persona on stage, the good taste to your outfit and about the effects you select to perform, the simplicity, to accentuate the magic and not your skill, not yourself. when Im thinking Fred Kaps, Channing Pollock, Cardini , Richard Ross, Norm Nielsen, Lance Burton (manipulations), even Copperfield I found these elements. What I don't really like to the magicians is the cocky style.. Because Magic itself is something really big that is happens in the eyes of spectators, so you don't need to pride about it. All the great magicians knew that so they didn't take theirselfs so seriously..Because then I think that you seem a bit ridiculous. We have to be good actors first, and this is the difficult thing.

David Copperfield. The best and most important magician in modern times.
Why? There are many obvious reasons why he's the best. One of the reasons and the most important one is that he is the one who took magic to another level and saved it from certain decline.(In MHO) |

For me, ive always been fascinated with manipulation and that "something from nothing" idea. I remember the first time I saw peter marvey perform on worlds greatest magic, I was dumbstruck. His act was so smooth and so flawless. And his card manip was amazing. I sat there and rewound that video tape until I broke it studying everything that he did. So my favorites are:
Peter Marvey Nathan Burton --just cuz he always has something interesting. (remember the girl in the toilet?) Tony Clark -- I think that he has an elegance to him that you don't find too much today. He understands the classic feeling of magic. Plus I have all his videos, so he had to make the list haha. Lance Burton Cyril Lennart Green --okay hes not a stage magician, but I said I loved card manip and this guy is the king. |
