I saw another post about favorite tricks for walk around. I would like to start a list for favorite tricks for walk around in a family night situation. I perform for a family night which means I am there to entertain the kids as much if not more than the adults.
What are your favorite routines for this. I will start. Sponge Balls professors nightmare animated deck. |

David Williamson has a great routine in, "William's Wonders" called, "The 3 Card Trick."

Torn and restored sugar packet Card Warp Pen thru dollar, napkin...whatever Sol Stones, purple cow When kids are around I just adjust my behavior and attitude to grab and hold their attention. I act kind of silly-ish. Hope this helps. Bill |

Yet another sponge ball vote here. Also, I like to perform a ring and rope routine called 'Full Circle.' It expands on the typical Professors Nightmare formula by incorporating a ring into the routine.
P.S. Thanks Bill for reminding me about Card Warp. It's such a good trick, I haven't used it in a while. |

Of course Sponge Balls is always great, but I also get a great reaction from the fortune telling fish.

Any trick where they don't have to count higher than 4 is good.
A suggestion would be to get Bill Abbott's Performing Magic for Kids on DVD. He has a number of card effects that work very well with kids, you may find something you like on it. |

Hello:
My recent favorite is the Ninja Rings; I've only started doing it for kids recently, but it's getting very good reactions from them. Professor's Nightmare is excellent too. I've learned not to do color changing knives, because about half the time, a kid will bend down and look on the bottom side of the knive. Ron |

Sponge balls, sponge balls, sponge balls.
Nothing else comes close to the reaction created by sponge balls, except possibly sponge bunnies. For something different, a 2 or 3 phase silk vanish routine or even a simple CSB routine are all visual wonders that work well with kids. Once you get to age 10, then you can do some visual card effects like Here then There and Red Hot Mama. |

Sponge Bunnies "Pseymour the Psychic Pfish"(tm) (Fortune Telling Fish) I have a 2-part routine starting with the TT Streamer and ending with mentalism (yup, that's not a typo) using the crayons they already have on the table. A good one coin routine is also very engaging for older children. |

Some simple card effects could work with younger children, but I would use cards with large plain numbers, animals, etc. on them. That'll make it easier for kids to work with the cards.

There is on From Phil Goldstein: "Pointer" it with cards with blue and red arrows. It is very nice, and if you adapt it, and make your own cards, using the same principle, it's still better.

I like using the color changing shoelace. The Kids seem to enjoy "catching me RED HANDED"

I used to do a routine using 4 or 5 sponge balls that worked really well. and of course my not so famous floating dollar bill illusion, or should I say floating anything small enough that one of the kids could give me. they reall seemed to get a kick out of that.

Can you give a description and a link to a website that has this effect. Is it on one of his DVD's? Thanks, Tim Quote:

I also Velcro'ed(sp?) a mini card to a bunny in hat finger puppet. So I force a card and then the bunny in the hat goes into the hat snags the velcro on the card and comes up with the selected card....The effect isn't as important as making a big deal about the bunny in the hat....
Adam PS if this is unclear I'll try to help out as best as I can....
