"This is the coolest coinbox I've ever seen! A most devious development in coinbox magic! Get it now. I imagine these will sell out quickly!!!"
- Doug Conn "It’s hard to come up with complety original ideas these days, but the NON box is a true innovation. A Boston box that can be examined! With this great box you can show a box filled with coins like a Boston box, make them vanish, and have the box with a NORMAL BOTTOM immediately examined! And there is so much more you can do, limited only by your imagination! I LOVE this box!" - Michael Rubinstein “You rarely see a totally new gimmick that accomplishes something so amazing in such an elegant way!” - Michael Ammar THE ORANGE TREE MAGIC STUDIOS Presents...... THE NON BOX The NON Box is a brand new Okito box that is designed to act like both a standard Okito box and a Boston box… BUT ends up being completely examinable! Yes you read that correctly!!! When they examine the box they will not find that pesky little extra "lip" on the bottom that is usually present on a Boston box. Why???? *****Because the gimmick actually slides off and can be palmed or ditched very easily. READ That again. Here is just one of the many miracles that are possible: You open the lid to the box showing it full of silver half dollars. You dump out a handful of half dollars. Put the lid back on the box. Snap your fingers, open the box again and it is now full of Chinese coins! But here's the kicker. You put the lid on the box, snap your fingers and as you slowly pull the lid off the box… The box is seen to visually transform into a solid SLUG. Nothing that they just witnessed could've even happened. Because...the coins could've never came out of the box. Because it is no longer a box! This is just one of the miracles that is possible!!!! ***all of the items are made out of high-quality brass. Made by Jianya Kuang what you get: The NON Box Set includes * The NON BOX Okito Box + interchangeable lid. * The NON Box Solid Slug * Secret Magnetic detachable gimmick * The NON Box tutorial download Click Here! ---

Love this idea especially with the solid slug. Very cool! But sorry, $249 (INTRO!) price is definitely not affordable for an effect such as this, IMO. This is just me and my experience using a regular okito box. In all my performances with a boston/okito box I have never had anyone question the box and want to examine it after a routine. So to pay this amount for a feature that has never been an issue for me is not worth it. I am sure some will love to have that feature and use this with great success, especially the transformation into a solid slug! If the economy and inflation weren't as horrible as it is today I would possibly think about purchasing because I do love the new features this box offers. But just way to much for me right now in these times we are living in since the main feature (being examinable) is not an issue with me in performance.
Now, the last release STAMP by Joe Deng was offered here at an intro price where there were going to be limited quantities produced.....well, this is still available and being sold at $75.00, the "intro" price. Penguin magic has STAMP in stock and still offers FREE shipping on it. So, maybe if things get better (economy/inflation), I have a feeling these will be around just like STAMP is and may eventually end up picking this up a year(s) from now. A very cool looking box with great features, I will give you that!

I tend to agree with Bob.
I have a high quality set of Okito, Boston and Slot boxes, and I consider a Slot box a must-have for coin box work -- certainly more so than a slug. I too have never found a problem with the examinability of a Boston box, and a box switch with a half-dollar size box is not that difficult. There are also a lot of questions for those who would want to use these boxes for normal routines as well. How tightly does the lid fit? What is the lid depth? Can the box accommodate a turtle? How well is the box weighted? If you don't already have a set of boxes, this seems really cool and worth considering. It's in the same price range as, say, a set of quality Okito/Boston/Slot boxes from Copeland Coins. But compare: Copeland: 3 separate boxes with interchangeable lids, including a slot box (and a slug is available) NonBox: 2 boxes (Okito and Slug) with an interchangeable Boston gimmick. No Slot. |

I feel super conflicted. I love this idea, and the video showed it off beautifully well. That action looks amazing.
But also ... that's a crazy price. I, too, immediately thought of the Copeland boxes, but CardGuyMike beat me to it. It's worth pointing out that they come with separate lids (so 3 total, instead of just one for the Non Box). The Plug is the same price, so you could end up with a similar configuration, but separate boxes. Does that mean it's worth the same? Well, not to me, since it's less brass and machining. (Plus, I don't think the plug box should cost $100.) Sometimes you want that extra, separate box. I also have to say the design makes me worry. I understand the need for the lines - you need them all for the Boston part, but there's a very visible change. This isn't magician's guilt to me. It's not just that the box might be seen as ambiguously taller after doing a traditional box switch. There's literally a jump from 3 to 4 lines (or 4 to 5 sections), when the extra piece is on. Most people can tell the difference between 3 and 5 without consciously counting and I bet many would think something was going on even if they couldn't put their finger on it. And then of course I have all the same questions as CGM. What can the lid hold? How many coins in the box? Turtle? The pictures make me think no for the later. IS the final coin changable, or is it always a WL? It spins in the video, but is also held (kind of) upside down, so maybe it's fixed in some way. I'd happily take one to experiment with. But not for $250. I worry it would just sit in a collection. I'd have to think about it pretty hard at even half that price. But d@mn, it sure does look slick. |

It's definitely not cheap. I agree. But you get what you pay for. This is an awesome set. And the milling/design is exquisite.
PlUS..... here is the most important part: THERE IS NOTHING like it on the market. Period. The Orange Tree Studios are dear friends of mine. And they are known for putting out the highest quality products. They have a master craftsman that does amazing work that I have never seen the likes of. The only thing I could compare it to is Todd Lassen. Considering what it does and what you can do. I think it's a steal. But I guess I'm a little biased. If this isn't for you I completely understand. But I don't think it's worth anyone's time to talk smack about it just because you don't like the price. Please don't make the mistake of thinking that... Because until you've held the props in your hands, you can NOT actually speak knowledgeably about the product. You are merely speculating out of ignorance. Has anyone here actually held the props and used them? No?. Interesting You don't think it's worth it? Great. Don't buy it. Simple. If you think you can perform all the same moves with a standard Boston box. Great. I wish you all the best! But there are some amazing visuals that you simply cannot do unless you have this gimmick. End of story. And if you are confused just drop me an email and I will show you exactly what I'm speaking of!!! Nathankranzo@gmail.com But for those that are interested. There aren't many left. And when they are gone....they are gone. This is a very limited release. Click Here! Watch a new video demo now!!!!!

In all fairness Nate none of the previous posts are talking smack on the product. Any experienced magician can make a very formal opinion of this product because you guys were so nice to show what you're going to get in the demo. We don't need to have the product in hand to make an opinion on whether or not the few extra moves you can do with this set is worth the price they are selling for. I think most everybody's going to agree that the product is beautifully made and the visuals are fantastic.
If you remember, I was a big advocate for you in your thread about Stamp. I was so because of what people were talking about with the subtlety being noticed of how the coin stamp was made. This is totally different and I hope that people who share their opinion as to whether or not the price is worth it for them compared to what the prices of original boxes sell for compared to what moves you can do with the traditional sets versus this set is not going to be frowned upon by you. I almost get the feeling like I'm dealing with one side of our current government where you can only say what they want to hear.

Craig Petty gave this trick of the week.

He did, and he all called it out as being very expensive at least three times, not including several separate references to the high price ("if you have a lot of cash lying around", "you'll faint at the price", etc.)
No one's called into question whether it's a good idea or a well made prop. |

Very cool indeed.
But WAY out of my price range for sure. I will keep my original BB that still makes people happy with zero suspicion... Great job on this though. Nice to see something new. Last one that I remember (New for an Okito type box) was the Beyond Okito, from The Trickery years ago. I still have mine! Also cool and very deceptive. |

This means many of the comments will be made without having the subject prop in hand. CONGRATULATIONS and much enjoyment upon those who make the purchase. For me, no matter how beautiful the craftsmanship is or how amazing the visuals are this doesn't have $250 of value.
How many magicians does it take to change a lightbulb? Regardless, for magicians darkness is a time for d'lite.

Do the Set look like in the video - Inside the box nearly black ?
Outside looks also not very polished, rather strongly oxidized |

I don't have one, so I can't say.
A picture of what yours looks like, instead would be useful. I've still not received any clarity: the Boston coin can rotate, but is it special (magnetic, perhaps) or affixed in any way? Or is it possible to switch to using something other than a Walking Liberty? Since you have one, I imagine you could tell us. |

Well, then it's sure a good thing that I wasn't asking you specifically, and rather Magic Dust, who'd posted right above me and sounded like he'd just received one that looked different. If not him, then two others in the thread mentioned they'd just ordered.
After all, this is a forum for magicians helping magicians. It's a thread for the discussion of a newly released product - not all posts in it are directed at you, the distributor, though this one is. As a rule, I don't buy products that use everyday items (cards, coins, bills, etc.) without understanding whether I will be able to use my own preferred type or if I'll be stuck with a provided gimmick I can't modify. Only Walking Liberty coins if I prefer Franklins? Pass. Have to use a particular style of card with no repair/make-your-own instructions? Probably not for me. The video made a point of spinning the Boston coin in the first 3 seconds. So it doesn't seem unreasonable for me to wonder. I've never seen blu tac let you spin so freely. I'm not looking for any reveals (though the teaser video gives plenty of exposure) or content from the tutorial. But understanding what to expect about the state of the item you will get (need arts + crafts? provide your own "something extra"?) is something so fundamental that it doesn't feel like "support", let alone "customer service". Especially when it costs as much as this one does. Telling me "it's in the tutorial" doesn't help me if I need to know before I have the product. After all, it's not like I can go out and make one of these on my own, or figure out the handling and use a box I already have. I'd need this one. More clarity is better here. |
