Does anyone have a way to restore a deck to new deck condition, not order, if the cards are worn out? I'm experimenting with something Gary Oullet said in his book "The Pass" where you put a deck of cards in the freezer for a day. He claims he's never done it, but do you have any more suggestions or experiments?

Why would you want to? Go buy a new deck! It’s not like they cost an arm and a leg! These are your tools, especially if you are a card magician or even a magician that does a couple of card effects in your act. Keep all your old decks for practice.

Worn-out is just that . . . no way to
un-dog-ear a deck. Must cardmen do enough stabbing, tearing, and so on that a new deck is welcome. If you don't, and want a deck that really lasts, you need to try "Carta Mundi" Platinum cards. The have much better board density, an will outlast current USPC products 3 to 1 (or better)! |

well either just get new ones or make it so that the old ones don't get old. Get a card press or a metal card case (the ones made by mississippi steel co)and some fanning powder and your cards will seem "new" or atleast usable for quite some time. However, if you live in the states (where bikes tend to be cheap) then I don't see why you don't just get new ones.

Well, typically I would by new decks. It's just I wanted to see if any experiments work for scientific purposes. I know, I sound like some 19 year old who wants to sound smart. Yet, I just wanted to see some ideas.

I once heard about Ray Grismer's method for this and I tried it. I alternated the cards face up and face down, adding some extra cards to make it a tight packet, and put the cards in its case. Then I wrapped the cased deck tightly with rope (Grismer used rubber bands I think)and put the pack in the fridge. I left it there for 24 hours.
I was slightly disappointed, because I expected a miracle I did this with fairly new cards and with a pretty old and well worn deck. I think the procedure is not worth the effort. In my case (no pun intended) the cards were pretty much the same afterwards. -Uli |

I tried putting my cards in the freezer once. It was after i accidentally left my cards in the sun for a while and they got all warped. I didn't put them in a press or anything so im not sure if that would have made a difference. I left them in there for about 5 hours. After taking them out i didn't really notice any differnece. So it'd probably just be easier to get a new deck.

[...] I'm not sure of what a "metal card case" is, but if it's a three-sided metal gizmo that is meant to squeeze a cased deck of cards, then it's a RIP-OFF of a Joe Porper invention. Fortunately, Joe has begun making the "Porper Card Clip" agin and it's even better than ever. If you want your cards to stay crisp and flat, buy one of these from Denny & Lee or from Bob Kohler at http://www.bobkohlermagic.com Regards, Thomas Wayne

Wow! Those are some expencive decks. You can buy Stipper Bicycles for cheaper than that. Luckily i have a Costco near by and can buy them by the box for about 14 bux (13 Decks a box i think). |
