I had a call from a journalist who wanted to do a festure article on me for a city magazine!

Someone else from the magazine ALSO rang wanting to quote me for an article on kid's parties!

One of my client's has PAID for ads to the SAME magazine promoting my appearances!

The magazine is found in a paper which misrepresented me and when I complained the journalist (a third one) offered to do ANOTHER profile on me for the newspaper!

THEN, a FOURTH journalist rang from a arts street press PUBLISHED by the same company as the newspaper wanting to do a profile on my work promoting local performers!

!!!!!!!

After years of press releases I've gotten five GREAT offers of coverage for FREE in less then a week !

Isn't it amazing. You just can't buy that kind of advertising. Get ready for you telephone to start ringing off the hook with business.

That's why I advocate getting publicity as one of my main marketing strategies. Whenever I land a feature story, my telephone starts ringing.

One thought: try to give each newspaper or magazine a different photograph to use, or ask their photographer to shhot some pictures at a show. They like to have content that's different from their competitors.

Kyle is correct. Get the photographer's telephone number and ask to get prints of the photos. Sometimes they will give you copies, sometimes you will pay for them. Either way, it's worth it.

Also, Ask the magazine about getting reprints of the article before they go to press. Sometimes their printer will do a run of an extra 500 or so copies for a fraction of what you would pay if you did it yourself. They just do it when the presses are set up. Be sure to ask about reprints early enough.

Each one has used different photos by different photographers who have different styles!

They charge $20 per shot which is a big pricey IMO, buy I get to look at a sheet of usually about 40 shots from each shoot so I can pick the best one(s)

There is a great moto which is "be careful what you ask for ... because you might get it." I used to do all my own publicity back in New Zealand and was amazed at how easy it could be if I came up with a good and novel angle to get in the newspapers, especially the local one. All I did was ask! I even took it a step further and got on the main Childrens TV show which lead to a 2 year contract ... again by asking.
I have a collection of photos taken in various articles and magazines that I still use, especially on the website.
