If you had offered them in advance more than 17 pages of commentary within two weeks of release, they'd have bitten your hand off !!!

They were not being polite because when I perform magic it’s all out there. There is a dynamic I create from the start that sets this tone throughout. Anyway after a week of following. I get this message. “Son, you magicians are a bunch of big children playing with your toys, you’re so mean to each other. It’s not that serious! Hello,
Firstly we would like to thank everybody for their support with The Peak. We have been both surprised and amazed at the response people have had towards this new and innovative device. Though, of course, we have been made aware of some concerns about elements of The Peak and we would like to address these concerns with this post. We feel that it is important to explain that everybody that appeared within our first trailer was shown in detail what The Peak was, how it works and what its intended use would be. They were all contacted through a friend of The Collective whom they shared a Zoom call with. They consented to being recorded and for that to be used as part of the promotion for The Peak. They are all friends of The Collective and people whom we all respect, admire and look up to. Though some people are insinuating that the use of US business cards was an oversight on our part, we hope that people understand that The Peak would not function or feel the same had we made the device larger. Additional length would leave space for your licences and bank cards to slide around within the device and would also make the appearance of it seem visually incorrect. A key element to what makes the design so ergonomic, minimalistic and elegant is the fact that it perfectly fits the universal size of a credit card. The Peak was heavily inspired by one particular credit card holder which is also credit card sized. Part of what makes The Peak so devastating in performance is the assumption that The Peak is, in fact, that real world product. Any changes in size, quality or finish would invalidate that assumption. Regarding the use of US business cards and the insertion of the card, we have added an additional video to the instructions page on the Murphys Magic website. Here you will see a friend of The Collective talk about some alternative approaches to using US business cards with The Peak. We feel strongly that the tearing option is both strong and extremely practical. The added bonus of this approach is that it leaves your spectator with two jigsaw pieces that perfectly tell the story of what happened. We understand that tearing a business card is not everybody’s preference so two non tearing options are also shared along with information about where you can design and order high quality business cards that perfectly fit within the device at a very reasonable cost. Within the additional video our friend also discusses the insertion of a business card. He explicitly teaches how to use the provided bank card as a slide that creates the required leverage for a smooth insertion. This is something that once understood and implemented will lead to smooth and easy handling of the device. With minimal investment of time, you will be able to insert a business card without looking at your hands. We feel that this is a must for all devices of this kind. We understand that some people have found it frustrating to not know who I am. We also understand that some people believe that they do know my identity. As I write this I can assure you that nobody truly knows the bigger picture regarding my identity. The reason for my secrecy is not to hide from anybody or anything. The main reason is that I am trying to help with the exposure of magic and to keep the secrets for us all as magicians. To laymen, I am a known performer and, if I were to put my name on the product, laymen could potentially see the secret to the device you own. Secondly, this means we can comfortably share the secret in our trailer as it will only be seen by fellow magicians. We want you to see exactly what you are buying and we will do this with every project we work on. I stand by The Peak in its original form, as do all of us at The Collective. We spent a great deal of time in the prototyping stage of this project which included myself using a handmade version of this right through to working closely with our manufacturer to create the optimal outer carbon fibre panel that offers what we feel is the right amount of transparency. The Peak is like nothing else in our industry and our goal with it has been to inspire new excitement for a classical method. Transparent carbon fibre does not exist in the real world and the combination of metal and the exterior panels are what makes The Peak psychologically impossible. Though there are many people that love The Peak in its original form as intended, we have taken your feedback extremely seriously. So much so that I have been prototyping a new exterior panel for The Peak. This is why it has taken me a while to respond; I wanted to make sure this was possible before promising it to you. This new panel will still appear opaque when the provided card is in place and will offer an even clearer view of any information inserted into the device. This will give those who need it extra visibility with The Peak though our preference is to use the device as it has already been presented. Each pack will consist of one new panel, replacement screws and an Allen key. The production time of these packs will be around two weeks. After shipping to Collective HQ, we will hand check each panel before packaging and sending them onwards. We estimate it will be 4-6 weeks before they begin to land with customers. These kits will be offered to all current and future owners of The Peak at no charge for the kits themselves. We will be speaking with Murphys Magic this week about the possibility of distributing these to all Magic dealers through their network. From there they can be posted out at cost to owners of The Peak. Of course anyone who regularly visits their local shop can pick up their kit in person or have them sent out with their next order to avoid any additional costs. We will also be adding a short video to the instructions that will explain in depth how to change out the panel correctly. We are offering this as we believe in the project and we sincerely care about our customers. We hope that this solution encourages even more people to perform with The Peak. Anyone who has contacted The Collective website directly will be aware that we are responsive and extremely happy to help anyone in anyway that we can. The Magic Café is not a place where we intend to spend much time, though we are always on hand at: collectivestore.uk through our contact page. We have no doubt that those who have been in touch with us through the website will vouch for our excellent customer service. This is a service that we extend to anyone that supports our products regardless of where they purchase them from. So please do reach out and let us help in anyway that we can, we’ll be very happy to do so. With all good intentions and best wishes, Mr.Blonde & The Collective |

The fact that you’re offering these replacement panels free in incredible. Very cool. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone do this!

I have returned mine and I am happy with this decision.
I think this product was released to early. Without serious testing in normal performing conditions (mainly indoor, in the evening). I also had problems with the flawless insertion of the business card under the credit card. Overall, I think, this is an unfinished product, that should have never be released so early. This is testing by us, the customers. Unfortunately, this happens more and more. I’m done with “The Collective”. Patrick |

I agree, hats off to Mr. Blonde and company, whoever Mr. Blonde may be! Gaz, might be time to look for different connections to get more accurate info. Wonder who it could be? I always thought Mr. Blonde was a mentalist, first name was Ken but can't remember his last name. Oh well, the mystery of Mr. Blonde lives on!

Good decision,
Glad that there is a solution coming. To date we have already received all of our units back because it is impossible to get a peak even in the sunlight unless the word is 3 letters and in all caps It is a real shame too because the wallet is lovely, just not really usable as it is. Look forward to the updated version!

While I applaud The Collective for quickly trying to rectify this situation, it’s too bad they made such a basic mistake in the first place. Had they genuinely had many people beta test the product then surely they would have discovered that 80% had issues with it being too dark. Hard to believe that they had many people test it and they all thought it was perfect but once released the vast majority found it unusable.
Had they learned it was too dark for most users they then could have (should have) simply supplied a light and heavy panel in the first place to allow buyers to have a choice. Kind of odd to me also that they were able to develop a new panel in a matter of days but that’s a good thing I guess. And before we all consider this problem now solved, let’s see what other sacrifices need to be made in return for the clearer image. It seems it would almost certainly be more visible to the spectator so you’re probably not going to be able to set it on the table or be able to show the hot side after their card is in it. This won’t be an issue for some but others might not like this trade-off. Now if the new panel can be shown as openly to the spectator (or even close to it) then why the heck would you opt to make it intentionally darker in the original? What is the benefit to that? Finally, I’m not really buying their reasoning for not making it fit US biz cards. After all, we’re talking about an increase in size of a tiny fraction longer in length ONLY. So you’re telling me that size difference will be immediately recognizable and will look strange to people? Keeping in mind most people have never owned or even seen in person a newer style wallet like this. Sure, they’re advertised everywhere but I agree with Gaz in that I’ve yet to see one IRL. To make it sound like a credit card will be sliding all around with all that extra room sounds to me like creating an excuse to cover an oversight. So you see, not fitting US biz cards is a feature not a bug! Anyway, I do hope it all works out to everyone's satisfaction. But this being the Café you know that not everyone will be happy with it. |

After all that, not for me, I want creators like Steve Dela and Barry Fazackerley who stand behind their products and creations. We know they have tested, tested and tested in the real world before putting product to market.

So, as promised, I am back to deliver my thoughts after watching the videos with the wallet in hand. I also took the time to watch through Craig Petty’s review too and pretty much echo his views.
After pulling apart the wallet to stress the elastic I now have no issues loading into the wallet so that part was easy for me to overcome. I did test the wallet in three different lighting conditions and in a well lit room and daylight outside I had no issues with the peek. In situations where the light was slightly dimmer I could still manage a peek but wouldn’t risk using anything other than a chisel tip sharpie to ensure that the writing/drawing is large enough enough and bold enough. In low light situations I wouldn’t risk using it at all (certainly not with the unit that I have). Now, I will also admit that I was under the impression that that this was a carbon effect on a privacy filter material so that I could safely have it in view in lighter performance situations safe that I could peek without others seeing anything at all. Having it in my hands I realize that this isn’t the case and so if I was to use this personally it would only be in a casual day light situation one-on-one. Note: I fully accept that this was purely an assumption made on my part and again I should have clarified that. All in all, I regrettably I wish I had actually had the device in hand before passing a comment on it as my views would have been different. I will certainly be avoiding any video comments in the future as a result unless I have had a unit to fully explore before hand. My sincerest apologies once again to those who may have felt misled in turn by my comments and I can only hope that those who are halving similar issues have them resolved with the amended screens that have been promised. Best Wishes Michael

So if what you saw at that time justified and warranted your comment, then you have nothing to apologise for as you were literally only commenting on what you saw and the workings at the time. So everyone getting confused with the interpretation of endorsement or reaction, your opinion and comment at the time was simply a reaction - to what you seen shown to you which is fair enough and understandable (same as the others), not a endorsement - that’s the difference. |

Some could view it as that yes, even Mark T (Saturn magic) said they were endorsements on the latest live which is why it’s interpretational I guess. Personally I still stand by it was all pure reaction (which it was). Endorsement to me is meaning someone recommends, supports or approves something in this case this gimmick. If the trailer showed them holding the gimmick then making comment on it, yes I would say they were then endorsing it. Not simply reacting to seeing it for the 1st time then seeing the clever workings (which is what they were reacting to).

So he may have deliberately chosen a very bright lit room to show it in (with maybe even additional lighting) so it showed up the drawing/peek even more, maybe. So the point of that would have been to make the contrast look even better on camera for them being very clear almost like a privacy filter is day and night when turned.. |

I wonder who uses such an impractical newfangled purse ...
Where does the change and receipts end up ? Not to mention all the other things that still find room in a conventional wallet. I do not see any practical daily application. |
