Despite promises to myself to keep a new wallet neat and orderly, it would quickly fill up with receipts, notes and soon became an over-stuffed mini filing cabinet. Switching to a metal Slim Clip forced me to keep just cash and cards in the clip, as it won't hold much else. Just my personal preference, but I really like the minimalistic nature of the Slim Clip. They also last a really long time. I've had my steel Slim Clip for 15 years, and it's still going strong. . |

Bill, I think this method should really have a good name. What do you think about calling this the Stunninger Peek?
Since I now keep this in my wallet as part of my EDC, my head has been spinning with ideas for this. I always document the routines that I come up with, and I would like to give the method a name for my notes. Here is a routine I thought of at 4:00 am this morning! I call this PEEK-A-CAAN Draw two boxes on a card. Ask a participant to think of a card and a number between 1 and 52. Ask them to write the card and the number in the boxes. The card goes in the wallet for later. Now, there are two versions from here. First, the un-gimmicked deck: Tell the participant that you have a deck, but you aren't sure if all the cards are there. You then spread the cards and ask them to merely make sure that their card is in the deck. As you do this, you count until you see their card and then you do the math in your head for the position. you hold a break at the position needed to bring their card to their number. While holding a pinkie break, you then riffle down the cards and ask them to say stop. When they say "stop", you cut the deck at your break and hand them the cards. They count down to their number and place the card face down. You remove their written card from your wallet and their card and their written card and position are revealed. If you are a working pro, sign, date, and write your website or whatever on the card and take a photo of them and the card with their phone or your phone and text it to them. The second version uses a marked deck: Same as above, but you spread the cards for them to make sure their card is in the deck with the faces toward them and the back toward you. KJ |

I genuinely applaud you for always thinking and creating. I wish I had your creativity. But here you’ve turned a tried and true method of mentalism into not only a card trick but another ACAAN no less. Not my cup of tea but others may find it useful. Of course you did say it was early.

In my desperate attempt to put on a defense, I think the problem is the name. I really should call it ... wait for it... PEECAAN. Am I right? For those who love ACAANS and pecans, it's a perfect combo, even though it has nothing to do with pecans or anything pecan related. For those who hate ACAANS, or just more of them, then it's more like a combination of pee and another acaan. I hope that may be like a bit of salve on a burn. Never taking myself too siriously, KJ |

Inspired by KJ, I will share one of my favorite routines using a peek. When performing, I like to tell short stories from my life experiences.
Here's one story I like to tell: When I was a child in the 1970s, I first became fascinated with psychic phenomena by seeing Kreskin and Uri Geller on TV. I found it incredibly exciting that Kreskin could read the thoughts of many people from the audience, somehow knowing very specific information, such as their social security number, the address of the house they grew up on, and more. The audience would concentrate and send their thoughts, and Kreskin could pick these thoughts up. I was hooked! I wanted to be able to develop telepathic powers just like Kreskin. While Uri Geller is best known for bending spoons with his mind, what captured my imagination was his ability to know what picture had been drawn on a piece of paper, then sealed in an envelope. To a young child, this seemed utterly impossible. I wanted to develop my telepathic powers, too. Over the years I've worked at developing my abilities to read minds. Some believe that mental telepathy and other psychic powers are real. Others are skeptical, and believe it's all non-sense. I'll let you be the judge of that. I then give the subject one of my business cards and ask them to write down two pieces of information: the number on the house they grew up on, and a simple drawing, like they would have made as a child. I then put their card face down in the money clip, casually show both sides, and put it away in my pocket. Now I ask the participant to concentrate on the picture they drew, then the number on the house they grew up on. Really concentrate! Try with all your might to send those thoughts to me! As they are sending their thoughts, I close my eyes and concentrate, too. Then I wait several seconds and say, "I'm not getting anything. That's okay. Sometimes it takes a while." Then I might say, "Let's try something else", and start to do a different effect, then suddenly stop and say, "WAIT! I'm getting something!" And then slowly reveal part of what they were thinking of...then a little more...and finally the complete number and drawing. Incorporating a story from my childhood with the effect of reading two of their thoughts, makes this routine a little interesting and mysterious for the participant and spectators, and fun for me to perform. . |
