Had a thought of combining it with another effect. You explain that your clip seems to be a lucky clip. Somehow it always leads you to a spot where you thought you lost something. You tell tales of misplacing your keys yet when you held onto the clip it somehow led you to the exact place in the exact room where you had your keys.
You show that on the outside clip there is a folded page. You explain that you used the money clip to slowly come up with instructions that always work to find something. Now you show nine photos. All are photos are of things you said you lost yet the clip helped you find them. The photos: wallet, cell phone, keys, credit card, eyeglasses, cash, lottery ticket, mail, and store receipt. You might joke about the situations of some of those items. Now you tell the person to choose and item to lose then found. They write it down and you say, as you take it from them, "Let's lose your item amongst my credit cards." You now lay down the 9 photos in a 3 by 3 pattern. You take out the slip from under the clip and it has a set of instructions. The spectator is told to follow the instructions. The instructions have him move the clip from card to card in various patterns and has them remove photos as they go until only one is left. In the end, of course, that last photos is the item the spectator chose to lose. This uses what I believe is called the matrix principle. In this case, since you know what he has chosen, when you lay out the cards you make sure his item is in the proper place for the instructions. Greg

Interesting, though in my opinion, the clip should not be made center of attention. Putting it into the spotlight now takes a great tool and turns it into magic apparatus.

With the clip, within seconds of their card being inserted, the clip is casually shown on both sides then set down. There really is nothing to see. The subject will then be engaged in the routine, with their attention focused on following the instructions, removing the photos and ultimately making their selection. Very nice! .

Here's a halloween-ish routine idea:
Ghost Election The mind reader tells the story of how four dead presidents want to come back and be president again. It's their opinion there is nothing in the constitution prohibiting a ghost from running for or holding the nation's highest office. Four envelopes are removed from the mind reader's pocket. Each envelope is opened to reveal an index card with one president's name: 1. George Washington 2. Abraham Lincoln 3. Franklin Roosevelt 4. Richard Nixon The cards are returned to their envelopes and mixed. The mind reader gives the participant one of his business cards and asks them to write the name of the president they predict will win the ghost election, then turn the card writing side down when they are finished. While they are writing their prediction, the mind reader turns his back so he cannot see what is written. The face down card is then put in the money clip, which is then put away. The mind reader places each of the envelopes on the table. One by one, the participant is led through a process of elimination where they make free choices, until there is only a single envelope left. The mind reader asks which president the subject predicted would win the Ghost election. They say their prediction out loud. The one remaining envelope is opened and the name on the card matches their spoken prediction. After the written name is peeked, many ways to ensure the correct envelope and or name is selected. .

Nice idea with the Presidents. You could also use your idea in the traditional multiple out way. You have the photos out and they secretly pick one and their choice is inserted into the money clip. You say the money clip will not only guide you but gave you a hint earlier which one they would choose. You slowly wave your hand over the photos as you hold the clip. Suddenly you place it on one photo and they agree it is their choice. Now you prove that the you played with the clip and it gave you a feeling earlier.
The outs: The back of Washington has written "The clip lead me to this one earlier"/ Lincoln is on the back of the envelope and say, "The clip lead me to Lincoln earlier"/There is a folded slip under the clip that you open and it reads "The clip lead me to Roosvelt earlier/And Nixon is engraved on one side of the money clip. Just a thought

Greg,
Your idea that the money clip "will guide you" could be taken a step further into a full-blown pseudo muscle reading demonstration. The mind reader's check for performance (or other item of value or relevance to the event) could be hidden in the room, while the mind reader is out of the room with several witnesses. When he returns, just to make sure the actual hidden location can be verified later, the person who hid the object is instructed to write the location down on card, which is then inserted face down in the money clip. The is casually shown on both sides as the mind reader holds it in one hand and holds a handkerchief in his other hand, which the participant is also holding on to. The mind reader explains the subject is to concentrate on where the item is hidden, and their thought energy will guide the clip, just like a dowsing rod. .

By the way, for those that want practice CMR a bit, you could do it with this idea, but use a subtlety I had in my presentation: The forced directions were not specific so I had to truly find certain things. For instance, one force suggestion was, "Go to the prettiest woman in the room and kiss her". So I knew the guy was going to have me go to a female but I had to figure who he thought was the prettiest. I did.

Another idea popped into my head today. We all get asked to do an effect a second time. Doing so, of course, violates the second rule of the magician's code: never repeat the same trick for the same audience. Well, that's what I remember being told when I was first learning magic as a child.
Let's say you do a drawing duplication using the standard Money Clip Peek. You are asked by another person in the group to do it again. You explain that you cannot, and why. But they persist. So you reluctantly agree to do a slightly different effect, using one of the 20 or so routine ideas in this thread. But this time, instead of putting the money clip away in your pocket, you leave it on the table in full view. After your reveal, you ask the participant to remove their card from the clip and keep it as a souvineer. They remove their card from the clip with no risk of learning the method. How? You have two identical clips. One made as in the video. And a second that looks the same, only is completely un-gimmicked. For the second person, you use the second, un-gimmicked clip, and get your peek before their card goes in the clip, using one of the many excellent full business card peeks on the market. After the reveal, having the spectator handle the clip and remove their card eliminates the possibility the clip had anything to do with how you knew their thought, for them as well as the first spectator. .

Great! Here are a few additional thoughts on the same issue:
You can say: "Sure, but let me show you something different first". Then: You have a duplicate wallet with a mentalism gimmicked credit card. You are then able to show them a different effect where they can see that the cards are what they seem. Another thought is to have some sort of credit card "monte". I don't know why nobody has thought of this, I think I will work on this. Anyway, you can do a different trick that eliminates the method and then you can go back to the same method and "repeat" the first trick. In my case, with my preferred routine of writing two words and they write a third, participants get WAY more invested in what the two words have to do with it and they become obsessed with how I made the connection. In the routine, I aways throw in a few questions and comments to make it seem like there is a psychological method to the routine. KJ |

I personally like leaving the clip out but with the money side up after the card goes in.
They can see the back of the last credit protruding exactly as it should be. I like the fact you don’t have to get the clip out of play, of course you can but at your leisure once you have shown both sides as that’s part of the beautiful deception imo Gaz ![]() |

Stunninger, I was actually thinking of the same idea of having a duplicate non-gimmicked clip, but I couldn't think of how to use it. I like your idea.
