Vanishing Inc has a free video download of a great peek routine by Eli Bosnik titled Question & Answer. The SMCPD is, in my opinion the perfect tool for this routine.

What makes the device really perfect is that it’s totally normal to exchange (!) business cards.
So this makes a perfect and natural motivation to put the business card (from another person!) in the holder. It makes totally sense with this holder. |

You could tell the story (real or made up for the routine) of an older couple you know, married for many years, who gave each other something special on their 25th wedding anniversary, and bring out the silver clip. Then ask one of the couple to imagine what they might give their spouse on their silver anniversary, write it down and put it away in the clip. Then continuing with the story...although they experienced many challenges throughout the years, the older couple managed to work through them and stay together. On their 50th anniversary (then bring out the gold clip) they gave each other another special gift. Then ask the other person to imagine what they might give their spouse on their golden anniversary, write it down and put it away in the clip. Have them concentrate on their thoughts and try to send them to each other, and to you, telepathically. See if they can pick up on each other's thoughts. Depending on the couple, their answers may be quite entertaining. They may or may not be able to correctly guess each other's thoughts. Then continue on with your story about the older couple, and reveal the gifts they gave each other. I'll leave it up to your imagination to come up with ideas for gifts that may be sentimental or romantic. At the end of the story, reveal the thoughts each wrote down. . |

I got the video and watched it. It looks great and very deceptive. Not sure if I will use it since I have SUC, but this does look good.

1KJ Inner circle Warning: We will run out of new tricks in 4385 Posts |
I have performed my word association routine many times now and it is getting better and better. It is to the point where people really can't tell whether it is a magic trick or if I am using psychological voodoo on them. So much fun.
I started by using double blank playing cards, I now put a few business cards on top of the blank cards to give me more options and to make it look more impromptu. I still like the double blank cards because of the following routine I will describe next... KJ |

Here is another routine that I am really enjoying:
It is called... MASTERPIECE I remove a blank card and draw a line border around it. At the bottom, I write: "By [their name] and [KJ]" I then hand them the card and ask them to write two words That would be the title of a masterpiece painting. I give them examples, like "moonlit unicorn" or "Angry Dentist". The card goes in my wallet. I then take another blank card and draw a fancy frame around the border and proceed to draw the masterpiece. I then explain my "masterpiece" and then reveal their title card. They keep the two as a souvenir. KJ |

BTW, I explain the above routine as an experiment in perception. I tell them that if I were to draw some sort of modern art and separately they were to write a title for an unseen work of art, when people see the art and the title together, they will convince themselves that they see the connection.

You can use the same hole on your thumb for a blister. Or, you can cut a small slit out the side of the hole so that you could do the twisted finger routine with your pointer finger, or press your thumb into it to make a "Q" for a queen reveal. KJ |

On Oct 1, 2022, Stunninger wrote: This is an excellent comment, and this is why I have a variety of "magic" in my arsenal. I do stage magic, parlor magic, close up magic, and social connection magic that falls into different categories: I have some tricks that take just a few seconds that are designed to make a quick connection and create "a moment". for example, I am an elementary kids soccer referee. So, at the beginning of the game, I get a group of kids from each team together in center field and I tell them that I am going to flip this penny to decide who gets the ball. I then say the coin is a bit small, dirty, and hard to see. "Let me see if I can make it easier to see". I rub the coin and it turns into a jumbo three inch penny. Kids stop me on campus and ask me to do a magic trick. I always have 2-3 really quick tricks ready. Another category is tricks that fit into a conversation. For example, my oldest daughter is studying psychology at Stanford U. I use that as a seque to show a psychology related magic trick, like some of those described in this thread. So, food for thought, think of tricks that tie into common conversations about areas of common interest. I have tricks related to art, movies, food, pets, etc. So, in social situations, when the moment is right, I have a segue from a conversation that goes something like this: "Do you want to see something unusual about... (what we were just talking about)?" A third category is something I learned from Jeff McBride. he incorporates magic into routine daily activities like giving a tip or waiting in line. I like to do "magic to myself", like practicing levitating when "nobody is looking" while I wait in the doctor's lobby. When they approach me and ask (and they do because when I came in, I was overly friendly), I pretend like it just looked wierd from their angle, it didn't really levitate. Then when they walk away, I do it again, a bit less subtle. KJ |
