Gaz I agree with you. But I just like the idea of keeping the envelope as empty and flat as possible. Now what I do is I explained to everyone that we all have our little favorite Lucky charms and I go on to explain that this chip for example is my lucky charm it's been with me for many years and then I lay it on the table then I start talking about the Lucky charms and I nonchalantly say we will use my lucky charm as a marker and I let them know up until the time I put my lucky charm on the ones they pick they can change their mind but just like in Las Vegas once the chip is down it cannot be moved again locking in their choice of the charm. But I have to admit either way this is one great effect! And I thank you Neil and everyone else who recommended this!

Hi Eric yes it’s great either way but I have been doing killer elite for years and taking the poker chip out of the selection process makes this effect stronger imo.
Otherwise I may as well continuing doing killer elite.
I just think it’s another level cleaner without the poker chip out unless of course the poker chip hits every time ie the horseshoe.
I personally think that David and Nikolas have jammed this for so long to actually take out those abnormalities you are kind of putting back.
Don’t get me wrong killer elite it’s a phenomenal effect as is this with the poker chip.
I think, (I maybe wrong though) that was David’s and Nikolas’s reason for raising the bar with this one.
If it’s the envelope and the handling of it you can easily make another envelope that requires no handling requirements and looks incredibly clean Gaz:)
Ps not that the envelope provided isn’t good because it is. There are loads of other alternatives though Smile

A few folks have suggested using the poker chip as a marker. Killer Elite has stood the test of time, so if people prefer that route - its certainly a viable option. With that said, Gaz is correct in that Nikolas and I settled on what we believe is the strongest possible solution. It's paramount that every outcome feel like it was the only way it could have gone. Everything in view should have an established reason to be on the table - you want as little clutter as possible in frame for the final reveal. (Shameless plug: I do a workshop on my philosophy of multiple outs in my 2nd alakazam academy course if anyone is interested). So if you are going to use the poker chip as a marker, and the horseshoe is not selected, be sure to at least put it away after the selection is made and build in some time delay before the reveal so it is out of sight, out of mind.

So far I've had the chance to use this with the chip being used as a marker and keeping it in the envelope. Both have gone over very well. I finally did have the choice be the horseshoe and the reaction when they turned over the poker chip was actually better than I thought it would be. But a word of caution be careful they do not try to pull the sticker off like it is magnetically stuck on there!

Thankfully it’s printed directly on the chip (no sticker).

Glad to hear it’s been going over well!

I was born in 1958. I mentioned this because if you look up the Horseshoe hotel and casino in Las Vegas you will see it used to be known as the El Dorado casino. It changed its name to Joe W Brown's Horseshoe casino in 1958. And I will use this to personalize the reason this particular casino chip is my lucky charm. Now I know it is very fortunate that I was born in that year where I can personalize this story to my spectators. That is another reason I'm choosing to use this as my lucky charm/marker. When I first saw the Horseshoe charm I instantly thought of my old days in Las Vegas.

Originally the Eldorado club in the Hotel Apache on Fremont at 2nd Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was bought by Benny Binion who changed its name to The Horseshoe in 1951. Name changed to Joe W. Brown's Horseshoe from 1958 to 1962. Then in 1962 on Benny Binion's return it became Binion's Horseshoe.

Honestly, I think any of us could say that either yourself or a family member, spouse, friend, mentor, etc. were born in any year around that time period and it would still be fine if one desired to do so to enhance your presentation. Personalizing your presentation almost always creates more interest and makes it more memorable. People enjoy learning more about the performer, even though in many cases (at least for me) it may not all be true. Smile

100% correct! I'll be performing this later on today and I just hope somebody picks the horseshoe! Haha.

Interesting results from yesterday's four performances! I did have one person choose the horse shoe and of course when I asked them to turn over my lucky charm/marker they looked at it started to laugh and handed it back to me saying that was pretty good! But in another performance I put my marker down on their choice which was the elephant and something pretty interesting was said. When I had them turn over all the cards one man said I think I know how he did it. He then went on to say that when I put the chip down on the particular card that somehow or another it may have caused the other cards to change. I told him although that would be a very good magic trick it would probably cost a fortune to invent! At that the other spectators started laughing. This is a very engaging effect and it's a lot of fun to perform.

Thanks for sharing Eric. I don't have this yet but feel that everyone should have this in their set. Going to eventually pick this up. Soon!

In the above post, Eric has 'hit the nail on the head.' Fortuna is a lot of fun to perform and, thanks to its theme, is something which connects well with spectators.

I enjoy this effect every time I perform, which says a lot.

Well, I finally decided to try this tonight at dinner (fortunately, or unfortunately, we waited a long time to be served). I decided to go for the dreaded 'wife test'. My wife enjoys watching magic but she always wants to try to figure out how things are done. She was amazed. She loved the story about the different charms but could not figure out how it could have been done. For the record, she chose the Tumi and I have to say, the reveal really hit her hard! If you are on the fence about this effect, I'd say to go for it! Not too late to ask Santa to put it on his list...and no, I don't have any financial connection to either of the creators!

Have a great evening, everyone!
Just adding my 3 cents worth because anybody can add their 2 cents worth...
