I have an extra pinky that's why my nickname is SIX. Anyway, what I do is produce it, bite it off, and spit it out. It looks cool. Fools everyone and is funny. I wanted to do something useful with it. I'm working on useing it as a break to fool magicians. If anyone has ideas please let me know.

OMG! Does anyone else feel like they have to hold back on the title of this topic?
Six, have you checked out Meir Yedid's Finger Fantasies? Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it may be a start to creating magic with your rare situation. Don't worry to much about fooling magicians (small market), fool the regular folk.

Actually I don't have the equipment, but if you send me your mailing info I might be able to send a picture or when I get back from vacation in about a week. I might be able to make a tape of the whole thing I do with it and send it to you.

I think you're thinking on the right track. Your sixth finger is special and performing under the name Six is unique and interesting. You must be comfortable and confident. I would use jokes like, "You have heard the hand is quicker than the eye, well its even quicker with an extra finger," and go on to perform a coins across routine. Have fun and be creative. Remember it is a restaurant that you are performing at, where people will be eating. Eating your finger and spitting it out may be a bit much, but you might be able to pull it off if it's done in a joke-like fashion.
Best of Luck, - Joe |

Do you know the, "I've got eleven fingers routine?"
Count the fingers on one hand - 1,2,3,4,5 then count down the other hand 10,9,8,7,6 ---- Six and five equal eleven. I sure you can do something with this. PS Where do you get your gloves? Paula

Are you serious?
What do you mean? You bite it off and spit it out? Sounds a little strange... Anyway, use it to your advantage if you happen to screw up a trick. "Yeah, I screwed up that trick... any of you could have done that, BUT I'VE GOT AN EXTRA FINGER... HA!" You will hopefully get a standing ovation. Good luck to all 6 of you. -Francisco

I think the approach should be low key. You have an extra finger; it makes you special. Going for cheap gags would undermine your performance.
Why not work on effects that are rather strange without drawing too much attention to the finger? When the audience sees the finger and then experiences your performance it will enhance your performance. Try and find effects that are atributed to special powers. Focus on one skill, mentalism or the ability to move objects with your mind, or whatever but work within a single realm. If I were to watch a performer move objects with his mind and then during the performance realize that he had an extra finger, well I think the dramatic impact would be profound. |

Is your extra pinky functionable? 'Cause I know a guy who has an extra finger but he can't move it; it kinda just sits there.

Have it jump onto the other hand for a few mins... then back. See if they notice.
Think Igor's hump in the Mel Brooks movie Young Frankenstein. How's that for dignity?

What can I do with an extra finger? What can I do with an extra finger? What can I do with an extra finger? Early in the morning....

Use your diference to create a very strong character. A great character is the most important thing to a magician.

I think that is really cool! Especially since you are so confident about it.
I think you should get some gloves made and hold up your gloved hand, then they will think it's a joke. Take off the glove, show it, then say, "You thought I was joking." Then show your hand. After you do a great trick, use your extra finger as the excuse for being a good sleight of hand artist. You could use the line, "If you think that was good, you should hear me play the piano," while you hold up your hand. Dammit, now I'm jealous. I want an extra finger. Cheers SIX, James

I think if you ran up on Mir Yedid @ a convention, you could throw something cool together.
