Hey folks. Now that I have a great magic wallet in the Orphic wallet, my propensity for parting with money has brought to my attention these three coin pouches.

The Quiver looks great for switching, the FPS wallet looks nice as well, and I really like that the Pocket Portal is totally examinable. I perform mostly for friends and acquaintances, so having an EDC tool that I can leave on the table sounds nice.

Has anyone played around with these? What are the pros and cons for you, and which do you find to be the "every day carry" workhorse that goes out with you?

Cheers all!

I've handled all three, and they're not really comparable. They all do completely different things and have different uses. It ultimately comes down to what you want to do with the purse in the majority of your routines - and how you want to be able to handle it/let the spectator handle it.

Do you want a way that can you can hold out a little something extra (multiple options, but really only one at any time), unseen, and switch that in and out of play? Then go with the FPS, but it's not particularly examinable.

Do you want a way to store _multiple_ coins, for the appearance of a full reset, with light examinability? Then you want the Quiver. It's also great for things other than just coin work, should you want to use paper, billets, rings, or other small objects.

Or maybe you want the spectator to be able to freely handle the Pocket Portal, in which case you could use that. It's also fantastically made, and is cheaper than the others.

There's also Jeff Copeland's Viajero wallet (100% examinable) or Traveler (holds an extra, like the FPS), if you like that style - and they're excellently made.

In the end, it's about picking the right tool for your needs. Do you use any gaffed coins? What kinds of routines do you do? How much spectator involvement do you want? These are the kinds of things that should inform your decision.

I hope that helps.

I own a VDR Quiver+. It's a clever device. I like its utility. I suspect it could be examined by a spectator without much possibility of discovering the gimmick, but I haven't allowed it to be inspected.

I find that it opens as desired about 80% of the time. The key to its function are three pieces of spring metal. These pieces have become slightly bent over time so the purse does not fully close any longer.

I purchased mine on E-Bay from a seller in China for considerably less than what some of the magic site charge. The material is advertised as leather, but mine is faux leather. As far as I can tell, all Quiver purses are made in China. Are some better quality than others?

Quiver is great for switches. The FPS wallet is very pretty, and you can do nice stuff with it, and it is cleverly gimmicked, but you need SOH as it is not automatic. I really like the pocket portal because you can do nice stuff with that as well, using SOH.Best to watch the promos to see what you like best.
And don't forget my rattle purse, available at Mymagic.com, which has been around the longest, and allows you to produce and vanish coins due to the rattle feature. Several routines in my book, but it is a utility item that allows you to do your own thang as well. .

Quiver is the best of those you mention but it's best to be subtle when using it rather than being blatant.

The fundamental features of each coin purse are already mentioned above and with many valuable opinions. The next questions are more about your performance style, venue, and your handling based on your character.

For example,
Does your routine involve having the spectator reach into the purse to pull out a coin? if yes, then FPS may be a bit cramped for that type of handling but doable. Quiver+ and PP would be much easier.
Are you a stand-up performer where availability of table surfaces cannot be relied on and you don't want to use your spectator's hand as a table/furniture? And, you typically reserve only one of your hands to open/manipulate the coin purse? If yes, then Quiver requires less handling.
If you prefer to "show the purse as empty" to a larger number of specs in the shortest amount of time, then your handling may be more smooth with one of the 2 larger purses (PP and Quiver+).
Is your pocket space coming at a premium? Some walk around performers prefer to use the smallest utility possible. In this case, FPS is the smallest of the 3 purses.

Hey folks. Thanks everyone for these excellent and insightful responses. In the end, I'm opting for a Quiver and a Pocket Portal, using different features in different environments/situations. Cheers!!

I lost my quiver+ this summer and I'm buying a new one now. How many magic props would you actually buy again? It's on the short list for me.
I think I'm going to add a pocket portal OR FPS as well. I like that PP can be examined, but frankly I've never had anyone catch something on the quiver. The FPS definitely doesn't appear to be something you could hand out. The "sharpie pull out" looks great but you could probably achieve similar effect in other ways.
