I wanted to mention something I notice every time I practice the O.Box material that I know and do - the space that 4 silver half-dollars fill exactly, is the same space that 5 copper English pennies fill. 4 Halves - up to the brim. 5 coppers, up to the brim.

I have one O.Box routine where I do it with 4 English pennies but have a 5th secret coin in play. At the end of the routine they all (all 5) go into the box and that is the only time I give them a good look at that view. Other times I'm using the Richard Kaufman idea of opening the box like breaking an egg (and the coins fall out-without letting them see that 4 English pennies don't fill to the brim.)

I can get five Barbers (but only four Walkers or Kennedys) into my Okito box.

So using Barbers could perhaps open up the same sort of new potentials as using English pennies.

Interesting. I only have 1 worn Barber, but heck yeah, these little things are great. Nice call Karnak. I just acquired a bunch of the old bronze English pennies. These coin companies send me catalogs and I almost never get anything unless the price is right. I have very few gimmicks. But I also got an African copper coin with a hole and a Star of David. And one with a kangaroo from Australia. I don't like gaffs anyway. But I find coins from other countries to be interesting if the size is right.

I do one routine with an Alka Seltzer and an Okito Box. You can get their initials on the tablet with a Sharpie. Do a switch as you drop into a glass of water and it "disappears" and reappears in the box. Ha.

And the Bronze pennies are so much cooler than the copper ones!

Here might be a good time to mention my routine Tour Around Boston which appeared in Genii magazine a few years back. There were two main magical moments in the routine...like 2 routines in one. First you dump 4 coins out of the box, and then you dump 4 more coins of a different color out of the same box! Then you do a transposition with the 2 groups of coins. There was one thing about the routine I wish I had explained more clearly. Sometimes there was a discrepancy as to the orientation of the box, and the way to handle that is to use a little time dilation and to hold the box not out in plain view, but holding the fingers so they somewhat obscure the box, and the tilt of the box is such that the box isn't showcased, and of course you'd be pattering about copper and silver changing places or whatever you like.

When you set the box down, reach across it so your hand or wrist "shades" the box as you reach for the lid or other coins. Anyway, check it out if you can find it. I got to show it to David Roth. He liked it. I showed it to Allen Greenberg that same day. He wasn't able to talk at that time but he held my hand after the trick.

I had a "move" in an old newsletter...What Is the Sound of One Coin Clapping? The idea was to seem to drop 2 coins in the box but really to palm one and to drop 1 in the box, but sound like 2 coins. The first sound was the coin landing on the rim - Roth's Rim Load in such a way as to get maximum sound when it lands, and then when the coin is nudged over to fall into the box you get another sound. Then you put the lid on.

That "move" was from around the time of the World Trade Center collapse. Time flies.
