What exactly is disastrous with a very well thought out and working gimmick? I really don’t understand this. My Waken gimmick is still working great, no thread breakage so far, good design, easily repairable, the motor is so greatly adjusted, no noise at all, no vibration. You could even change the sturdy thread if you wanted. In the meantime I also found that some criticism in the Waken thread was not valid! If a prop isn’t used correctly one can’t claim that the motor is falling out for example. Waken was released before Haunted Deck Pro but praise is given to a obvious copy cat? A lot of creators obviously show no respect for another these days anymore. But if we as customers doesn’t notice and always take the cheapest and most selfish route nothing will change. Waken is a great release and concept. |

Hi ArtIn, glad your unit is working well. I am a big fan of this plot and have many variations in my collection. Reading some of the concerns here and from an individual I know that owns Waken I held off purchasing. I have purchased the Haunted Deck Pro and will see how it ultimately works. I will be comparing notes with my friend that owns Waken. Don't want to get into a debate on who was first, etc. but ultimately neither producer can really lay claim to the concept. True Haunted decks in both mechanical and non mechanical versions have been around for decades ( I own several mechanical/electronic versions). The basic concept is similar in all. The motivating force and how it is activated may vary. They all owe a nod to Al Baker...

@ ArtIn: All those who know me well (and you sure do ), will agree that I very rarely praise an effect/prop (especially so which are based on modern Hi-Tech electronics), until & unless it proves to do what has been advertised. Over the years things have changed and few of our creators (and they are growing by the day) try to deceive their fellow clan (the buyer) with false advertisement as well as using the Hype Machine to meet their greed for money. This is not good.
I never purchased 'Waken'. However, one of my friends had purchased the prop and I had ample opportunity to play and test the device. I made my first post on the 'Waken' thread (on page 2) and showed my appreciation for the design and fresh thinking that has gone into creating the 'Waken' gizmo. But soon, as people started receiving and using the gizmo, the prop quickly began to show signs of problems/defects (for whatsoever reason) one after another. I followed up the issues faced by the users and kept giving my suggestions as to how to rectify/overcome the issue(s) encountered. BTW, the creator/designer of 'Waken' never addressed the problems/issues encountered by the users on this elite Magic Forum. If one has the time (& the inclination), I humbly suggest you go through the 'Waken' thread and decide for your own self. Personally, I was never happy with the construction & design of 'Waken'. OK, said that: - Then, after almost a year, the 'Haunted Deck Pro' was released. I purchased it, but only after a dealer friend showed me the gizmo and its inner construction. After receiving the prop, I was very happy the way the whole prop had been redesigned as well removing almost all the drawbacks of 'Waken'. IMO, good thinking, planning and design could make this possible. For those who own 'Waken' will quickly see and compare the difference between both props - In their quality, construction, reliability and durability. See the 'Haunted Deck Pro' prop and you be the judge. I wish the creator(s) of Haunted Deck Pro or one of our reviewers can post a couple of photos of inner construction of the prop, thus making it easy to understand the difference between the two props. This will help compare both props. On the 'Waken' thread a couple of photos have been posted showing the inner construction of 'Waken'. Please don't get me wrong, in no way I am trying to Hype the new release (I have never done so and shall never do) nor do I know or have any links with the Haunted Deck Pro creators. I write what 'I' believe is good for our art & its people. My quick short review is based on my own honest opinion of the prop in general. Please take it if you like it or else lets move-on. Thank you! This has become a lengthy post so I will stop now . . . Thank you for reading & for your time . . .

On Dec 3, 2022, oombob wrote: The speed control is a passive control. Like I mentioned in my short review (if you may so call it), it's not related to the speed of the motor. The motor runs at constant speed. It is covered in the instruction but not explained fully (just a mention). OK, let me explain in more clear terms. You get two tiny spools on which the thread is wound (very similar to Waken). One spool has a larger diameter and the second one has a smaller diameter (almost half the diameter of the larger size spool). So you now get it! Use the larger dia spool for faster speed and the smaller dia spool for slower speed. Clever, isn't it? IMO, the slower speed is great for the Rising Card effect. P.S. Before you stat playing with the props, please watch the instruction video first. IMO the instructions are just about adequate.

Looks like it's half a deck in thickness. I'm guessing you can add a bunch of cards and use it without having to switch the deck in and out like with Waken?

Please let me clarify:-
The gimmick deck is about 1/2 the size of a deck - i.e. 30 card thick (this includes the 4 threaded cards required to do the 4 outs). On top of this you can add about 15 to 18 normal cards + 4 selected cards that will be revealed (say total 22 cards). For all those who have the Haunted Deck Pro &/or Waken here is a little suggestion. On the FACE of the TOP Card that is used for hiding the mechanism etc. stick a small (about 1cm dia or square) piece of felt right in the center thus covering the hole on the card (where the thread passes through). Now re-thread those few cards and you are done. The piece of FELT works as friction mechanism thus leaving almost no slack in the thread when it is winding on the spool. Thus reducing the risk of the thread getting wound on the shaft of the motor and getting stuck/locked. Hope that makes sense. For all those who have 'Waken', see the difference in construction for yourself. Click here to view attached image.

In an electro-mechanical device anything is possible that can go wrong. I suggest, it will be better you contact your dealer and get a replacement or a full refund. Thus far, this is the first case that has come to my knowledge. And yes, the instructions are just about adequate to help one get started (which I did mention in one of my posts on this thread).

Mine arrived and everything seems to be working as should (touch wood)
This will be great to finish off a card set with a quick deck switch |
