Wow! In Dan's last post on April 27th he stated that in a few weeks he would be sending out installments. You are saying you have received nothing yet?

I can confirm that he has sent nothing yet other than the one email several months ago telling us how much work he's done and asking us to confirm our email addresses.

Wondering why this is in latest if there is no product to talk about?

Same old story pre-ordering anything. Even if it’s called a “subscription” not a pre-order.

I received their message from Dan on August 10th:
“Hey, it's Dan Harlan here. There hasn't been a lot of movement on the books in the past few weeks. I've been ill, busy, out-of-town, or otherwise interrupted by life. However, I'm buckling down to get some layout done. I have lots of text and images ready, so it's lust a matter of arranging them. I say that like it's easy... it will take some time, but not a crazy amount. I consider myself "on schedule" and I'll be getting some installments out soon!”

That was almost a month and half ago so… ???????????

As you all know, this is a new process for me. Yes, I've written and illustrated in the past... The Minotaur, lecture notes, my instructions, and so on... but I've never tackled a book (let alone, 3 books!). So, I'm taking a little extra time. As an artist, I'm never quite 100 percent satisfied with anything I produce. However, there comes a time when I just have to let go. Also, this is a big project. I've done big projects in the past as well, and always completed them. I'm always wary when I introduce a subscription project. I want the roll-out to go smoothly. I know there will be some glitches in the system... and there already have been. I know, I've just got to get this thing actually going and let you all see what I've got. Thank you for your patience and support up to this point. My birthday is coming up (Oct 14) and that seems like an appropriate time to give life to the project.
There. I've set a firm deadline.
And, I'm pretty sure the retail price of the books will increase at some point before all three are printed. So, subscribers have locked-in their already discounted price for the entire run. Of course, anyone reading this (who is not already a subscriber) can sign up to get the same benefit...

I really hope that, similar to all the Penguin lives, there will be a section where Dan constantly interrupts himself, says that he knows how the trick is done, tells us he is good at math and does an inane giggle. ????????????

Umm...he is on this thread, you know? Maybe Dan's stuff and his style are not to your taste, but you could be a bit politer.

I have watched many, many Penguin Live lectures and Dan is nothing like this. And out of all of the different magic lectures that I have seen, he is easily my favorite host. Not sure where this was coming from, but it surely wasn’t justified with the way it came across.

Anyways, I wish Dan luck with this endeavor. He poured his heart and soul into the massive Penguin Tarbell project, something that I did purchase, and I certainly appreciated the perspective that he brought to it.

I'll begin sending installments to subscribers this Oct 14, and the first book will be ready to print by Oct 14 2024. Of course, it will be possible to have it signed. We'll talk about that when it's ready to ship. Thank you for your interest.

I have received an initial sampler of the Masterworks and it is just a double page spread in .pdf as promised but if it is indicative of the design quality of future installments, then I think most will be satisfied with the appearance which shows a lot of thought in the layout and design.

I do not think it appropriate to comment on the actual content outside of a closed forum for actual subscribers; it does deal with a bit of business which Dan places in the context of his early development in magic from his school days. But it reminds me favorably of the style of the best Einhorn books with a injection of some personal connection and history but not too much.

I hope this is a good indicator of the direction and style that will characterize this project and I expect the sophistication of the content will increase as well.

I look forward to the next installment.
Arthur C Clarke was mistaken--Magic has always been the most advanced form of technology.

I've gotten a few sample pages from Dan (historical or background stuff), but the only performable trick I've received so far is the jumping rubber band (yes, that jumping rubber band). Are most of Dan's emails going to spam or is that all he's sent in the last fourteen months?

Posting again here because Dan asked us to pressure him in his Masterclass and no one did. It's been 15 months and still the only trick I've gotten has been the jumping rubber band.

Dan asked for more people to pressure him as well so if anyone else can join in on the fun it would be appreciated.

There’s a long history of magic and mentalism creators taking preorders and keeping customers waiting or not delivering at all. I like Dan as a creator and I was REALLY tempted by this but my gut feeling is he’s one of the guys that will struggle to stick to deadlines.

This is the reason why I never buy preorders.
