The prices thing popped out at me instantly on the first trailer. I hoped it was just something for the effect, but I'm getting the feeling from some of the comments that it isn't. Still, it must have been a conscious decision on someone's part, and with so much detail to other aspects of this (like actual stores with real addresses, also viewable on the trailer), I really wonder why.

Just watching the performances, I can't help but cringe when I see the "credit card" come out for no good reason. What is the justification for the credit card cri&?? Oh... I just need to take this out even though we aren't going to use this and then look at it intensely for a moment (right before the big reveal) and put it away.

Is anyone here really surprised that Murphy's was more interested in making money than putting out a quality product?

I just performed this for the first time today. I got really good reactions it definitely seems impossible to people and Craigs routine— the way it’s structured— is really great because it allows you to build some real drama. Anyway I think it’s a great trick.

You said why bother doing this when you can do something completely different using the same principle. And I gave an example of the same manner (why bother doing one thing using a peek when you can do something completely different using the same technique) to show that this is stupid. Regarding the credit card: Craig talks quite detailed about how to handle the credit card, so it absolutely flies by. I didn't watch the complete performance video but the way he teaches it makes 100% sense. He as well as the others envolved in the teaching also have multiple ideas how to do the effect without a crib or memorization. Personally I don't like most of these ideas, but that's just a matter of style. But why do you care so much, anyways? You're a mentalist. You know how to easily memorize a list with 30 items, don't you? |

I don't have this in my hands yet. Is it not possible to scan receipts from your local area and edit them using OCR and arrange them in a way that works for the method? Again, I don't know the method yet...but just an idea for those that want receipts with correct spelling and geographically correct for you. If it doesn't affect the method, I will make my own this way and print them on thermal paper, though I have no problem with the tyvek they are on originally--just an issue with the spelling errors and prices most likely.

It's possible... and by possible, I mean you can. Me, I don't know the first thing about OCR : )

Using the principle with receipts may be logical, but I strongly believe that a greater application is still waiting to be unearthed.

There is a lot of critique on this page but interestingly the only person who said they actually performed it said it got a great reaction and they had no idea how it was done.

The more I think about it, the more I realize just how little thought has been actually put into this methodology.
Why are we looking at LISTS OF WORDS? So boring. Everyone is accustomed to thinking of this as lists of words instead of focusing on what those words actually represent. In this case, they are representative of objects. So why not create a set of photos or art prints? No words. The photos could depict wildly different scenes, yet each features an arrangement of a set of items in a totally natural and organic way. We leap from gazing boring lists of words to beautiful art prints and/or photos. Far more interesting for the participant, too. For example: With this effect, you could simply take pictures of various grocery items sitting on your kitchen counter as though you've just gotten home and taken them out of the shopping bag. Not a great example and pretty lackluster, but you get the idea. If you're into bizarre, perhaps you have illustrated or painted scenes from various Ripper murder sites. I know, I know. It's just so much simpler (and unimaginative) to take 15 minutes to type up a few boring lists, print them out, and call it a day. Heck, you could even sell those boring lists for $25.00; what an easy way to make money!

You posted this just as I made another, so I think you may have missed it. It relates somewhat to your routine that you shared with me a while ago.
I'm trying to get people to stop thinking of this principle as simply LISTS OF WORDS (or NUMBERS). It is has the potential to be so much greater than that.
