For those who are wondering, it took about two and a half hours of work to customize the provided "editable pdfs". I changed the store names to local retailers, put on real addresses and phone numbers, adjusted the product mix, corrected spellings, adjusted prices to current levels, and redid all the totals. See images with products blacked out to protect method:
![]() I'm printing these on standard 20lb laser printer paper and they look and feel really good. The fonts provided with the downloads really work well. I did locate some 17lb paper at a local office supply store which matches real receipts well but didn't buy as it has been a non-issue. No-one has questioned the customized receipts. My patter also helps stop any such talk as I introduce them as being "copies of receipts from a handful of stores". "Copies" can be interpreted as "various" receipts or "photo-copies" of receipts. Plus there is a dual reality thing which goes on between those who handle the receipts and other observers, especially when using in parlor setting. Regarding the editing program, I used a free trial of Foxit PDF Editor. Took about 15 minutes to figure out how to edit them with the software (e.g. choosing to edit all objects not text option). But once the nuances were known, it went very quickly. Couple observations, this works really well as a 'mental epic' style effect in parlor settings. It is perfect for "commando" style kit. Have one spectator come up an ask them to choose a receipt and item while your back is turn. Then tell them you want to have another spectator choose a different item. So could they please go through each receipt and if it has their item keep it, but if not place it on the table. When they are done you ask them to return to seat. Then you casually pick up receipts on table slightly spreading them and hand them to another spectator. In this motion you "apply the binary principle" as you hand the receipts to a spectator seated. And tell them while your back is turn you want them to choose and item. When they are done you turn back around. At this point you can ask a third spectator to choose an expensive luxury item instead of an item from a grocery or big box retailer. Or you can keep it just to the two. Either way you take out a stack of business cards or index cards from your packet and take two or three off depending on how many spectators you have. This gives you perfect opportunity to see the C*** which is glued on the back of one of the cards in the stack. The list should be renumbered to be opposite of what was provided since the binary method in this instance is being done on the receipts not chosen by the first spectator (so 30 becomes 1, etc.) Then you put remainder of stack away and you just proceed in normal mental epic fashion, writing a prediction on each card with all the various subtleties you like. As Daryl would say, "you are clean, Clean, CLEAN!". The great thing is that there was absolutely no f____ and you don't have to carry around a big board. Yet it plays big and is very deceptive. I also downloaded images for all the products in a standard image format so I could make a custom Flitch effect. This way when tablehopping, I can have one or more spectators go ON THEIR PHONE to my website BEFORE a product is decided on. Then when they scroll down the page, they will find the product they chose posted under my "prediction of the day". Since I use a pocket remote, I don't have to go anywhere near my phone. One final note, there is a subtlety in how the binary principle is applied hear that allows you to do add another prediction in the standard routine. On one side of the card have the numbers in the piles written (i.e. 2-3, 4-1) and other the other side have either "your product was on the (STORE) receipt" or "Your product was not on the (STORE) receipt". In other words, a four way combination. The store is the store corresponding to binary response one. If the binary calc is even, then the product will not be on that receipt. If the binary calc is odd, the product will be on that receipt. To me, this is a better 2nd stage prediction. This idea works really well with a Blake Vogt Number 4 Envelope followed by the Flitch option for the product reveal. Anyhow, those are the ways I am using it. For $25 and a little leg work, you can get a really great piece of mentalism magic! |

Great info there Frank. Thanks for sharing it with us!
I’ll be honest, I have had zero interest in this effect until reading Frank’s post. Now I’m seriously considering picking this up. But I have to admit that the only thing holding me back is that the perfectionist in me will probably force me to get a thermal printer as well. |

Thanks, Frank! By the way, you can buy tyvek copy paper and laser print them, which I think would improve the look/feel and certainly help durability.

But I did find some 17lb and 18lb paper at staples which did look and feel like receipt paper but could be printed on a laser printer. They were more translucent like receipts. Which I was afraid wouldn't work as well with the printing on both sides. So I stuck with normal paper. I am not worried about them wearing out as I can always print more at any time. I am more concerned about having to adjust the price of eggs as I went with current prices in store which is unbelievable. But now they are coming down a bit. Of course, other things continue to rise... |

It directly follows McBride's BEKOS 3.0 in rotation where a "happy" memory is being created with an audience member. Then I say: "What is creating unhappy memories right now is the price of food and gas. My wife often asks me to run out to get various items of which we've run out. But with the price of gas what it is, we started saving receipts to see if we could stock up and avoid those extra trips. That's when I realized how beautifully random it all was with some items being gotten on multiple trips and others only being bought once. Then it hit me, this would be a great method for testing psychic phenomenon as what are we more psychologically and emotionally connected to than food? So I brought copies of receipts from a handful of stores all of which had about fifteen or twenty items on them. Would you mind helping me with an experiment using them?..." Of course, I couldn't use this on my wife. So I told her that one of our magician friends sent me some copies of receipts he had as he was finding some strange psychic phenomenon around them. He asked if we would do an experiment and report back. We will need to do it twice just to confirm. This last part was for justification to her for separating into two piles, etc. for the mental epic style effect above. By the way, my wife found it to be fooler, in fact she said "I hate it when you can read my mind." LOL. She gave it an 8 of 10 on the entertainment scale. Which is really good so that is why I put it in the parlor act to test. After decades of marriage she has seen lots of magic, not just from me but from ring banquets, conventions, theater shows, television, etc. |

Craig, (1) big congrats on Thurston award, (2) also hope you are feeling better soon. (3) And lastly, sincerest condolences on the loss of your 4-legged friend. Losing a pet can be devastating. Only wish we didn't always outlive them, but the sorrow of the loss can only be replaced in time by the happy memories. I lost mine a year ago and still think of her often. But I've got a new 4-month old puppy now (forgot how much work they are)! LOL

I just say :
Vox s a routine using an app in ios : shortcuts (I haven't got the product but it is obvious...) This video is a performance of EDCeipt using shortcuts not vox. Each time someone will use shortcuts theybwill say it is vox ??? I use some apps line shortcuts in Android for 12 years... |

Sorry if I reveal anything???
I haven't vox It is obvious that it use shortcuts. Perhaps it is not what I think... It is just a guess ( but I don't see another way) That is not a bad thing! It is a very clever way to use it. And it takes very long time to configure a routine like this! So even if yo discover that it use this app it is a very good and not expensive product! |

Thanks again for the kind words on EDCeipt. I have set up Vox and it’s now one of my favourite ways to perform the routine. I love it! David Jonathan is a genius!
Anyway I wanted to share an idea by Rich Rellish if you are using the Michael Murray handling on the tutorial. His reasoning for doing the separation sequence is because he wants a second person to think of a different object so he asks the first spectator to remove any receipts with their product and hand the remainder to the second spectator. That way they will think of some thing different. Totally logical and sets you up perfectly for Michael’s One Ahead routine. Hope that makes sense. Have a great day Craig |
