Don’t forget to sign the petition. And don’t worry a person who’s not into Magic will have no clue what’s happening but it’s important. We get this to 100. I also agree with the above comment about the mental health thing. Yes they made Craig feel like ****. That’s wrong. I’m with Craig. But two wrongs don’t make a right. I think it’s okay to state facts and share opinions. In fact it’s important but I think we have to be very careful not to become the bullies ourselves.

So my guess is that what you claim is likely how he feels, may not be how he is actually feeling at all. My sense is that feeling like he is wrong does not come easily to him. I have always had the highest respect for Michael Weber. I felt his knowledge and creativity was amazing and practically unmatched. So it is very difficult for me to believe all of these accusations but as new information comes to light it becomes more difficult not to believe them. But as I mentioned, even with the very little interaction I have had with him over the years, one thing that comes across immediately is that he obviously has a tremendous ego. But that is not in and of itself a bad thing because I always felt he deserved to. |

The problem I have with any effects involving receipts is that as a casual performer who performs almost exclusively to family, friends, colleagues, etc. I just never feel like I can get away with using them. The stores are wrong, or the dates are wrong, or the items listed are wrong, or the biggest culprit is usually the locations. People who know me will know I wasn't shopping in Costco in NYC 2 weeks ago. Any stories I concoct to cover these discrepancies never seem to ring true to me. So I tend to avoid them in the first place or make my own when it is possible.
Now you may say people won't notice but I believe they very likely will. If you hand me or anyone I know a receipt from Costco the first thing people in my circle will be curious about is what store location you frequent (people are very passionate about which Costco they feel is best but maybe that's a regional thing) and then what do you usually buy that I may buy also. I've had lengthy conversations with many people about this very thing, and it's not limited to just Costco. So anything that looks "funny" about the receipt will very likely be noticed IMO. It's strange how many different things we are told on here that no one will notice, yet in the same breath (and often by the same people) we are told that are our audiences are not stupid, we don't give them enough credit, etc. So I'm always hesitant to purchase any effects using receipts because even when they are touted as being super realistic they are just never quite realistic enough to past muster with my crowd. Now I haven't seen these particular receipts so I will not rule them out but I'm not counting on loving them. But I'm not a big fan of this style of effect and method anyway so I'm not that worried about it. |

In all this !@#$%ing and moaning and personal attacks on both Petty and Weber, I have yet to see a question if Petty actually credited Weber as an influence for EDceipt.
Just a credit to a previous creator would have gone a long way to avoid this lengthy drama. I was hoping for preliminary opinions about this trick. Some posters did. Videoman expressed some valid points about working with receipts. He's absolutely right that people will question the legitimacy of the receipt. I live in Canada and at least one of the receipts comes from a store we don't have. I also don't shop at Costco in NY. I realize that you could adjust your patter and say that these belong to someone else or that you collected them during travels. These receipts are made of Tyvec. Will they pass muster or will people have questions? I know Petty has tested this trick in the real world and we have to take his word for it that they look and feel like the real thing. If nothing else, Petty takes great pride in testing his products before he publishes them. I'll wait to order this trick and get some "real" reviews from people who have the actual physical product in their hand and performed it. |

I think this thread has highlighted a number of issues within Magic that are important and worthy of discussion - such as behind the scenes bullying, crediting, the stifling and limiting of creativity etc. These things are not exclusive to Michael only.

Intellectual Property is kinda like a modern day enclosure of the commons, innit. Hardly surprising a man who has dedicated his career to it is so obsessed with claiming ideas that have been around forever

@453rob:
I'm Canadian too so have the same issue. However, there is a very easy way around this. I would simply present this as an experiment wherein I'd asked friends abroad to send me some receipts in an effort to see if there were any similarities or patterns between what different people purchase. I think this is a nice and tidy solution and it also causes the participant to internalize that question themselves when they look at the items on the receipts. I'm sure you could mix receipts together if you had both the UK and US version and this would further enhance that presentational angle. Maybe not your cup of tea, but that's how I would personally go about this.

When somebody has (over decades) bullied other creators, used underhanded tactics to prevent creative output and lied about their identity to sell product, my sympathy to their plight is almost nonexistent.
I for one won't be buying any Michael Weboflies products again. |

I hear it comes with templates to make your own receipts in your own language/country or I suppose once you fully understand the structure you could you buy the items from real shops and use genuine receipts with some slight modification.

- When you're travelling, you have a horrible habit of putting receipts in your wallet and forgetting to take them out. You can even remark how expensive things are getting
- Take several real receipts "mix" them up with EDCeipt, and use a f**rc bag to get the "several" you need. Just a couple of ideas I had to use em'. |

The one trait that distinguishes narcissists is their complete lack of compassion. You can see in brain scans that there is just no activity there. If Michael falls in that category people are just instrumental and either useful to him in stroking his ego or not. I for one am not yet inclined to show him compassion. He has been bullying others for a long time, it seems. Making them suffer. He had only stated that Craig wins. Not shown any regret or compassion for what he did to others. A few days and pages of outing and calling it like it is seems fine to me.
Please check regularly if you are becoming the type of magician Jerry Seinfeld jokes about. (This applies to mentalists as well.)
