I would like a list of some more tricks that can be done with or on a telephone. This should be flexible, i.e. mobile or landline. Creative use of speaker phone, some mobiles have calculators, etc.
If you can vanish a mobile somehow and pick pockets. Here's a lttle loosely explained routine called "N3!On3's (Anyone's) Mobile". PM if you would like the details. I am happy to trade tricks and/or sleight advice...I am amateur after all! Produce their phone. They check their pocket and reach for it. You vanish it. Oooops I lost it. Where is it? Let's phone it. We'll use mine (really theirs...oh, it's busy...gets laugh). No really, vanish it again. Someone else in the audience, phone this number. (Which you can know by phoning a *special* number while pretending to phone theirs.) They are surprised you know their number (if they remember it, you would be surprised how many people don't). Someone phones the number and you listen for the ring...but it vibrates in their pocket scaring the **** out of them. They find it in their pocket and the audience has a giggle. Or if you prefer old school... Sound of The Voice-Charles Jordan. So anyone else got any phone tricks? M |

I saw a guy producing a (previously "stolen") mobile phone off a spectator, and then throwing it to the back of the scene (having done a shuttle-pass to a foam fake telephone) and then beginning another trick, producing the phone later in a balloon (card-in-ballon style)

Nice one. In future books/DVD/downloads there should be more impromptu stuff with phones since so many people carry and use them. It needn't always be mobiles, there are many opportunities with payphones, and office phones, especially now that many of them incorporate cameras...the predicted card can be photographed, etc.

Good point. Everybody does have a mobile phone these days and there's very little that can be done with them in regards to magic. I think possibly this would make an interesting booklet of tricks all on its own.

Good call (pun intended). We could call it Let Freedom Ring (no pun intended).
OK seriously, that's a good idea...has it really not been done before? M |

If you have a helper, use someone's phone as remote control for the TV, HiFi, garage door, etc...

"The Wizard" is a classic. I still get the occasional phone call from my friend when he remembers the trick.

"Mental Yarn" can be done on the phone. It works great in close-up and stand-up shows.

Alan, I posted a question in the review section about the Mental Yarn effect. Nobody has said anything yet, so what do you like and dislike about Mental Yarn?

Mental Yarn gets a very strong reaction. You'll get unusual responses from people because they are really caught off guard. To me, it's a very direct mental effect with opportunity to embellish the presentation a little.
There just aren't many downsides to the effect, other than the remote chance it may fail because the spectator is easily confused. Choose who will assist you wisely - uncooperative or scatterbrained people are bad candidates to try this on. I use two people from the audience to help with this, so I could only miss if they're trying to mess me up - some people haven't learned to communicate their wishes when they don't want to see something. |

I forget the name, but I really like the one on the Max maven DVD's that deals with a thought of country. The one on 22 blows to the head is also good.

411 is a killer effect. It uses a land line phone, a deck of cards, a force, a white pages phone book, a person that you can call that knows what card your forcing, redial, and good presentation. If you can't figure this one out let me know. Its well worth doing.

There's a great card divination routine in David Blaine's Mysterious Stranger. It's the first or second chapter I think. He does it over the phone.

Store and save a text message reading: "I found your X of X! Love Jacky Diamonds." Fill in whatever card you're going to force. Recall and prepare to send the message to their phone, the phone will read "send message?" and wait. Force that card and set the Jack of Diamonds on the phone. When you put the card on the phone press send. When you lift up the card the phone will read "Message Sent" At that time the spectators phone will beep or buzz. The message from above will appear on the screen. It needs some kind of story or clever patter to really work, but it's something to think about.

Hey, just to let you know I'll be releasing a DVD in the next month with a trick called Mind Fusion that uses a phone effect, a killer effect. Probably one of the best I do. It I'll let you know when I put a demo up. I demoed it at several conventions and got great responses.
