Afterglow by Kaleb Wade. I haven't see a topic on this and wondered if anybody has it and what they thought of it.

If yes was your answer to both questions, please read the blurb to my upcoming release AFTERGLOW. If you don’t own an electronic die, please keep reading anyway, as there is also an alternative version included using marked poker chips. A coin is freely tossed, a die value is secretly selected, and a playing card is chosen in the fairest manner possible. Yet, the Performer can instantly divine all the choices that have been made. As an added kicker, an envelope was handed out at the beginning of the effect. The envelope is opened to reveal the Performer predicted all 3 decisions in advance, defying odds of 624/1. Please note: Electronic Die or marked poker chips, and AFTERGLOW gimmick is required to accomplish this effect. AFTERGLOW GIMMICK CAN BE CONSTRUCTED YOURSELF, PURCHASED HERE, OR PURCHASED VIA BLACK CAT MAGIC. Afterglow. Noun. Pleasant feelings that linger after a pleasurable moment or experience.

I've read Afterglow now and have an opinion. I love it.
Kaleb is clear up front you need an electronic die or marked chips so there's no sudden shock of a big expense. I like that he was up front about that. The Afterglow gimmick is something you probably have or are at least familiar enough with to make. You can buy them from Black Cat Magic once back in stock and I believe I will wait for the restock as I like the quality Bazz puts into the stuff he makes. As mentioned though you can make the gimmick yourself, cheaply. There is one more gimmick mentioned in the book that isn't listed in the description but it isn't required. Once you read it you'll understand. I promise it is not something you need to run out and buy. Again, you can do it yourself or perform without this gimmick entirely. I believe my money was well spent. Another great creation by Kaleb Wade.

This is a fantastic routine! I’ve used it a lot in a few different ways. I really like Kaleb’s work and afterglow, like his other releases not only gives you a well structured, practical and hard hitting routine but also inspires you to make the routine your own by adjusting it to fit your own style. Also Kaleb’s stuff is just fun to read, he’s a funny chap! Highly recommended!

No problem, it’s definitely worth picking up, even if you don’t have the die. There’s so many other ways you can you achieve the effect, the structure of the routine is brilliant!

Another vote for Afterglow (and Kaleb’s work in general).
Note: Whilst Kaleb was kind enough to ask me to help with a little proofreading of Afterglow, the sentiments below are unbiased. I like it! Simple, solid reliable method with three good moments of mentalism. You can make the gimmicks yourself (or as others have suggested, pick them up from Black Cat Magic). It's direct, passes the Vernon Test ("The mindreader correctly predicted a coin toss, a die roll and a chosen card") and the method is solid enough for you to focus on your presentation. Yes, you will need an electronic die. If electronics are not your thing I'm sure you can think of a good way to know the roll of a die, swap in a force die, or have a look at Joel Dickinson's Roll With It, which will give you another thing to have on your prediction. If you like simple, strong, direct effects with a solid method, then you won't regret picking up Afterglow. Thomsc (available for all your Mentalism proofreading needs!) -- |
