5) A U.S. civil war sword which reads "Presented this 27th day of July, 1861 to General Jackson for standing like a stone wall at the first battle of Bull-run" Can you prove it a hoax? There was a series of children's stories about a whiz kid named "Encyclopedia" Brown who actually had this case. Can't write "first" battle before the second one happened. Quote:

8) Which is faster, heat or cold? Batman again, the comic this time. Heat, anyone can catch cold. Quote:
There's a book by Larry Niven called "Dream Park," about a virtual adventure game. At one point the characters have to riddle "God" for a chance to finish the game. The answer was "a coffin."

Let's see....
1) bvbernard got it...a bubble 2) The 'elastic-thinking' Scott Cram nailed it...nothing 3) Both mandrake and landmark are right, but the 3rd answer is "a small p&*%is" 4) Theyre facing each other....kudos to pxs 5) Scott Cram & Mandrake are both right, but there's another reason the sword is bogus even if it didn't say 'First'. Can you spot it? (you sort of have to know civil war history) 6) pxs & Mandrake tagged it 7) The bridge answer is cool, but not what I'm looking for. It's a play-on-words. Think about it. 8) pxs is right 9) The great Cram got it 10) pxs and Mandarke got it, 'a coffin' That leaves #7, and the other answer to #5

For #5...if the sword was presented by the CONFEDERACY, the battle would be called 'first manassas', not 'Bull run' (the union name)
the answer to # 7 is 'When he's a man o' kin'!

Not really Mandrake, the battle went like this: The Union forces were making a mean offensive charge, and the outnumbered Confederates were starting to retreat, but the Virginian regiment under Jackson's command were holding their ground, and one of the Confederate officers shouted "Look! There stands Jackson like a stone wall! Rally with the Virginians!!" Hence the nickname.

bvbernard got it...a bubble Not quite true - the new "touchable" bubbles can be picked up with relative ease. And even your standard soap bubble has air (or something) inside, and basically the whole rest of the universe outside. |

Hmmmm.....I suppose if there's to be any truth to riddle #2, then no, 'air' could not be included as 'nothing'. Fine, fine....here's a replacement:
1) (revised) There is a large pail in which there is exactly 1200 mililiters of liquid, leaving about eight inches of empty space (from liquid surface to pail's rim) Next to the pail are two small golden goblets, both empty. One goblet holds 100 mililiters, the other holds 250 mililiters. Your challenge is to fill both goblets all the way to the rim, using the liquid in the pail, but still have 1200 mililiters of liquid in the pail. The pail must contain all 1200 mililiters at the same time that the 2 goblets are completely filled.

1 ( revised )
As there is space in the pail it would allow for the goblets to be submerged in the pail thus meeting all the conditions.

Ah, I should have had #7, I just read that a few weeks ago. One side named the battles after towns, the other bodies of water. Now if I could only remember which was which...

(What is the answer?) 2) Why are metal sewer covers (Manhole covers) in the street round and not rectangular, square, etc..? 3) Which can see better in total darkness—an owl, a raccoon, or a skunk? 4) At 11 minutes after 7 am, Li-San goes to his local Seven Eleven Store to purchase 4 items. The cash register is broken. The clerk uses a calculator to compute the total. But instead of adding the prices of the items, he multiplies them. At first Li-San is upset, but he quickly realizes that the result is $7.11 either way. What are the prices of the four items? Exact numbers, no rounding. 5) You are in a car, stopped at a light. Also in the car is a helium-filled balloon, resting against the ceiling. The light changes to green and you proceed straight ahead. What does the balloon do? 6) What number can be multiplied by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, and no new digits (not in the original number) will appear in the results? (hint…..the number has six digits) 7) What gives milk, but only has one horn? 8) If you started with a million dollars and you gave away one quarter, then another quarter, and finally, gave away one more quarter; How much money would you have left? |

2. Because manhole covers with sides would fall through the hole. 3. Owl. 4. $1.25, $3.16, $1.20, and $1.50 5. Go forward. 6. Don't know. 7. Milk truck. 8. $999,999.25 Shane Wiker |
