I started 3 years ago. Now, I'm 37. I don't get into cards much, but spend my spare moments working on basic coin sleights. I have also worked up a show that I have done for some local cub scout groups and my kids school classes. I'm in no rush to be the greatest magician of all time. Steady is the course that will lead to much enjoyment.
Magic is fun!!!

Man you are not alone in the world as you can see. I started doing magic when I was 6 and stoped kind of when I was 19 or 20. I am now 29 and do it full time and lecture on magic. It all comes down to how hard you work. I think it was Keller who started at 40 years old and he is one of the most famous magicians of all time. So keep your head up.

Don't listen to all the crap they say. Magic has no boundaries and even the youngest child to the oldest monkey can learn it. It's an art that should be handled well and I believe anybody could do this, young or old.

Here's a good example: Bert Allerton, who was America's first full-time close-up magician, did not get into magic until he was 50.
So the bottom line is that age matters little.

..and also, it's not about the many things you learn, it's how you present it.

When your dead - then its too late. Other than that, there is no way age would have anything to do with mastering the skills required by magic. That's one of the things that makes magic such a wonderful hobby.
Keep up the good work!! |

I was interested in magic since I was about 10 years old, I bought a book that teaches simple tricks, no one amaze, I stop doing as I think I cannot learn real magic. AT 17, I came across a magic shop overseas and got my first stripper that and I don't have much magic shop in my country or maybe I am unaware of them. I try to look around at the age of 18 and found a online shop in my area and met my first mentor. I Just started for 1 year and 5 months Until now I'm almost 20 (birthday still a few more months) and I think it is alright. Why look at others? As long as I enjoy this art and hobby, that's enough. And I have been doing paid shows now.

I first got interested in magic when I was a kid (remember Marshal Brodein and the Reiss magic stuff?). I dropped the ball due to other increasing interestes and immaturity and didn't pick it up again until I was 33, married and had kids. I feel like I make faster progress now with less time involved than I did when I was younger due to the increased experience, judgment, perspective, and wisdom that comes from age (and the fact that there are lots of resources available now that weren't available when I was younger such as video instruction and forums like this one).

Oh I don't know. If you write a nice, enigmatic 'grimoire' and leave it behind for scholars of the occult to puzzle over, the real magic (in the minds of the living) could begin long after you're dead. Heh-heh-heh! Steve

I did my first paid show when I was ten years old. I did one trick from a book. As an adult, I was about 50years old, when I really started to learn magic and do shows. I still have the day job, but do a lot of paid shows. I have the kind of job where I can take time off during the day to do a show, then go back to work. At your age your could do almost anything you set your mind to as long as yuou are willing to work at it.

Yes, everyone is right, it's never too late to start. Sometimes when people see that you are improving/getting interested in magic they tend to get jealous for whatever reason. The person that made that coment to you was probably trying to put you down to make themselves feel better

I'd have to agree with everyone here.
I started when I was about eight years old and then gave it up as I reached my teens and wanted to play guitar and impress girls. Seemed like the thing to do at the time. As I got older I renewed my interest in Magic and began studying it seriously. I worked behind the bar and performed for a number of years. It was great. Then life changed and I put it on the back burner once again. Never losing interest but not really performing for anyone. Bottom line is that I am now in my early 50's and I am drawn to it as I have never been drawn to it before. You're a young man and have your whole life ahead of you. Never give up on something that you love. Life may throw you a few detours here and there but if the interest is still there then it is never too late. Take Care, Vincent |

I'm 28 and I just decided to seriously study magic a few months ago. Fortunately, there are many wonderful people in the field that seem more than willing to help out novices, regardless of age.

I had my first magic set at 8 and didn't really get into magic until I was 14. It doesn't matter which age you 'catch the magic bug' at. I had a 13 year old boy at Blackpool teaching me some new cards and at SAMS a 40 (or there abouts) year old teaching me aswell. The young guy had only been doing magic for three months and he taught me some excellent routines and the other guy had literally just got into it.
Derren Brown didn't get into magic until he went to university and it didn't do him any harm. Go for is what I think |

No age limit in this art. If you are REALLY dedicated to it, then pursue it! Age is just a number blown out of proportion! I know a guy who got into magic a year ago, and he is 63!
