One of the tricks I do is my presentation of Egg Can where an egg is cracked into an empty can, covered with a piece of cardboard and turned over on to the spec's head. The performer then forgets what to do next until he remebers that the rest of the instructions are on the piece of cardboard, which he pulls out and shows that it says, 'DO NOT REMOVE'. He then picks up the can from the spec's head and shows it to be clean, puts it down again and picks it up and reveals a cup full of candy.

The first time I did it (for about 130 people) I decided to end with the production of a cup with a few whole eggs inside, thus showing that the eggs've healed. I dropped the can a few minutes before the show and, unbeknown to me, one of the eggs broke. Silly me didn't think of checking.... When I picked up the can RAW EGG DRIPPED ON TO THE SPEC'S HAT - and he was the one who booked me!

That experience taught me two things, to
1) use a kid's head
2) end with a more conventional production, ie. candy (of which I give one to my child helper).

I used to work with real eggs and that is eggxactly why I no longer do...too many chances for error no matter what precautions you take....aggcidents are bound to happen...

The first time my Malini Bag was soaked with a broken oval I canned them in favour of wooden ones.

How did the host react to his egg mousse? Did you apologize and admit the mistake or did you play it off?

ReyRey & meilechl,

I agree with you both. The last thing you see in my act is a real egg. For Candy Factory, Dove Pan, etc. I only use blown eggs and for egg bag (Chinese or Malini) they are porcelain. Silk in egg is also porcelain and using an egg dropper.

Real eggs are swapped later from a dropper when I have to show a real egg.

At least with the Chinese Egg Bag it's egg drop soup!

He didn't realise it at the time (since it was all 'over his head') and the audience thought that it was part of the trick. I did take it off his head quickly and continue with the trick. I finished up as quickly as I could and appologised to him and luckily he was quite understanding. No damage was done as it was only a bit and it wiped clean.
